  • Publication number: 20200221193
Abstract: A software-defined redundant passive optical network (SD RPON) system having a passive optical network (PON) provider's server with an access network. The access network has a primary path to an optical line terminal (OLT) connected to an optical network terminal (ONT), wherein the ONT is connected to a customer's equipment to receive a PON signal and PON services. The access network also has one or more protection paths extending to another OLT connected to the ONT. An auto-detection system monitors PON signal transmission through the access network and an auto-assignment system assigns an ONT to the customer through using a customer's unique identifier. The SD RPON system automatically moves a customer from an existing ONT to another ONT if PON signal transmission fails through the existing ONT and serves a diverse path protection, while offering tremendously simplified and time-saving disaster recovery.

  • Publication number: 20180159772
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus for selective MAC address learning are disclosed. In one aspect, multiple different packets are received by a telecommunications device. The multiple different packets include different source MAC addresses. For each of the multiple different packets, a distribution type is determined. The distribution type is one of a one-to-one distribution type or a one-to-many distribution type. Based on the determined distribution type of the particular packet, a forwarding table of the telecommunications device is selectively updated. When the particular packet has the one-to-many distribution type, a source MAC address that is included in the particular packet is not stored in the forwarding table. When the particular packet has the one-to-one distribution type, the source MAC address that is included in the particular packet is stored in the forwarding table.

  • Patent number: 9820022
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus for restricting use of a network element outside an authorized location range are disclosed. In one aspect a method includes obtaining, for a network element of a passive optical network, an identifier and ranging information corresponding to a present location of the network element; identifying, from a database and based on the identifier of the network element, stored ranging information specifying a previous location of the network element; determining, based on a comparison of the ranging information with the stored ranging information, that the location of the network element has changed more than a specified amount; and outputting an alert in response to determining that the location of the network element has changed more than a specified amount.

  • Patent number: 9820006
Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus for diagnosing and optimizing an Internet Protocol television (IPTV) network are disclosed. In one aspect a method includes receiving a network address of a device; detecting a network topology associated with the device based on the network address of the device; identifying a configuration parameter setting associated with the network topology that is outside of a range of acceptable configuration parameter settings for the network topology; and providing output specifying the configuration parameter setting that is outside of the range of acceptable configuration parameter settings.

  • Publication number: 20170055133
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for multicast connection admission control are disclosed. In one aspect a method includes measuring, at a forwarding plane of a telecommunications device, an actual amount of multicast bandwidth being used to deliver multicast data to multiple end user devices over a telecommunications link; controlling, by the telecommunications device, membership to the multicast table based on the measured amount of multicast bandwidth being used independent of the amount of bandwidth or type of bandwidth used by any individual member of the multicast table and a threshold amount of bandwidth, and transmitting, by the telecommunications device, the multicast data to user devices that have requested the multicast data corresponding to a member of the multicast table.

  • Patent number: 9178717
Abstract: The present disclosure generally pertains to systems and methods for enabling leaf isolation in a multi-node tree network. In one exemplary embodiment, an Ethernet virtual network (EVC) system has a multi-node E-Tree network comprising a plurality of nodes (e.g., switches), including at least one ingress node and at least one egress node. The ingress node is configured to receive a data packet to be communicated through the E-Tree network and to modify a field, such as the tag protocol identifier (TPID), in the packet's header to indicate whether the data packet is received by the ingress node via a leaf port. As the data packet is communicated through the E-Tree network, the nodes determine the leaf status of the packet based on the modified field thereby enabling the nodes to enforce leaf isolation rules. The egress node upon receiving the packet is configured to adjust the modified field as appropriate such that the field on egress matches the field on ingress.

  • Patent number: 8824467
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure generally pertain to systems and methods for controlling multicast bandwidth. A communication system in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure comprises a network access device (NAD) having bandwidth (BW) expansion logic. The BW expansion logic is configured to automatically calculate the expansion ratio for a multicast stream based on various network parameters, such as layer 1 and 2 information, network packet size, and network transmission rate. Based on the expansion ratio, the BW expansion logic determines the actual transmission rate for transmitting the multicast stream across a subscriber link. The NAD then accepts or rejects join requests based on whether the sum of the current allocated link rate and the actual transmission rate exceed a rate threshold for the link.
