  • Publication number: 20050283968
Abstract: A method of making an encoder for use in a speed sensor includes providing a metal tube. A material containing ferrite is then extruded over the metal tube to produce an encoder tube. The encoder tube is cut to a given length to form an encoder. The encoder is then magnetized within a magnetic field.

  • Publication number: 20050285297
Abstract: A polymerizing fluid polymer (thermoplastic, elastomer, thermoset polymer, thermoplastic elastomer, thermoplastic vulcanizate) with an optional filler (such as magnetizable ferrite powder or carbon nanotubes) is extruded or pultruded into shaped polymer (optionally multilayer shaped polymer) so that all portions of the shaped polymer conform within a desired state of polymerization (in a multilayer coating, that the quality-related performance characteristics of shaped polymer are consistent within any coating layer). At least one (tear-drop shaped) flow diverter is described for diverting flow within an extrusion (pultrusion) die so that fluid polymer moving through a short residence time portion of the die will have a more substantial residence time (than would be the case if the diverter were not used) with commensurately greater thermal, pressure, and shear stress history so that the desired conformance respective to polymerization states for all portions in the shaped polymer is achieved.

  • Publication number: 20050168219
Abstract: A stamped crankshaft seal retainer plate is provided, including a molded encoder sensor support feature for mounting an encoder sensor of an engine speed sensing system. The use of a stamped crankshaft seal retainer plate reduces the cost of the retainer plate as well as the overall weight of the vehicle while precisely locating the encoder sensor for position and required air gap.
