  • Publication number: 20240088351
Abstract: A composite fiber includes a porous silicon phase including elemental silicon and a porous carbon phase including elemental carbon. The silicon phase and the carbon phase form an intertwined network structure in the composite fiber such that each of the silicon phase and the carbon phase is interconnected and continuous throughout the composite fiber. The silicon phase and the carbon phase together constitute at least 50 wt % of the composite fiber.

  • Publication number: 20220247036
Abstract: Nonwoven fiber mats include primarily B-glass fibers, and have a thickness of about 10 to about 700 microns and a basis weight of about 1 to 70 g/m2. The mats are generally thermally stable at temperatures of up to 650° C., and are suitable for use as battery separators.

  • Publication number: 20210155526
Abstract: A method of producing fibers includes exposing an inorganic composition to a plasma plume, where the plasma plume has a temperature of at least 1500° C. and a bulk velocity of at least 350 m/s. A system for producing fibers includes a plasma torch to produce the plasma plume and a feeding device to introduce the inorganic composition to the plasma plume.

  • Publication number: 20200369893
Abstract: Fire protective compositions include colloidal silica solids, clay, a low biopersistence fiber or refractory ceramic fiber, water, and optionally a chelating agent. Methods of using the fire protective compositions include providing a polymeric foam substrate, applying the fire protective composition on the polymeric foam substrate, and allowing the fire protective composition to dry.

  • Patent number: 7036591
Abstract: A low density, spherical proppant made from kaolin clay having an alumina content distributed homogeneously throughout the pellets, an apparent specific gravity of from about 1.60 to about 2.10 g/cc, and a bulk density of from about 0.95 to about 1.30 g/cc. The low density is achieved by controlling the time and temperature of the firing process to be from about 1200 to about 1350° C. This low density proppant is useful in hydraulic fracturing of shallow oil and gas wells.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 10, 2002
Date of Patent: May 2, 2006
    Assignee: CARBO Ceramics Inc.
