  • Patent number: 6877940
Abstract: Improved panels suitable for use in bulkhead and partition systems. In one embodiment of the invention, the panels are seamless, one-piece members integrally formed from a single resinous material. In other embodiments, the panels include depressions that obviate the need to fill the panels with foam or other supportive filler material. In still other embodiments, the panels have no fasteners extending through panel so the panels are substantially impervious to moisture. Other embodiments have grooves or similar mounting means disposed around their peripheral edges to which edging such as supports or flexible seals may be mounted. In yet other embodiments, the grooves are arranged so as to permit worn out seals to be quickly and easily replaced without the need to remove mechanical fasteners.

  • Publication number: 20050046214
Abstract: In certain embodiments, a thermal barrier can be removably attached to portals such as trailer doors, partitions, bulkheads, and the like. In one embodiment, a flexible thermal barrier having an associated flexible seal is attached to an interior surface of a roll-up trailer door in a refrigerated trailer to insulate the cargo area from the ambient air. In other embodiments, seals mounted to the trailer wall cooperate with an insulating blanket disposed on a portal such as a roll-up door. In still other embodiments, wall mounted seals are used alone, without a blanket, to provide peripheral thermal sealing.

  • Patent number: 6857834
Abstract: An apparatus for lifting or moving a partition or panel may in one embodiment include a frame that is mountable to an interior surface of a cargo area and a locking mechanism comprised of smooth and knurled guide and locking pins through which a strap is fed. In preferred embodiments at least one knurled locking pin can slide between a locking position which inhibits strap movement and a non-locking position in which the strap is substantially free to slide through the lift mechanism. In certain embodiments a knurled locking pin may be operable to slide into a locking position when a load is placed on a lifting end of the strap, such as when the strap is connected to a panel which is being lifted or moved. The knurled locking pin may also be operable to slide to a non-locking position when a user pulls on the opposite end of the strap.

  • Publication number: 20040126200
Abstract: An improved bulkhead and partition system in which at least two panels are independently attached to mounting members such that each panel can be moved independently. In a preferred embodiment, two bulkheads or panels are slidably attached to separate pairs of ceiling-mounted rails in a refrigerated trailer such that each bulkhead or panel can be independently slid toward the front of a trailer or toward the rear of a trailer to define, in cooperation with a removable center partition wall, a plurality of different cargo areas to be maintained at different temperatures.

Alternatively, two bulkheads or panels may advantageously operate without a center partition wall such that the panels may be placed side by side and fastened together to make a full-width bulkhead.

  • Patent number: 6623977
Abstract: Metal-doped sol-gel materials, suitable for use as sensors for surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopic analysis for trace chemical detection, are produced by effecting gelation and solvent removal of a doped sol-gel under mild temperature conditions. At least in certain instances reaction and drying will desirably be effected in an oxygen-starved environment. The metal of the sol-gel material functions, when irradiated, to produce a plasmon field for interaction with molecules of an analyte in contact therewith, increasing by orders of magnitude Raman photons that are generate by excitation radiation, and the method allows matching of the metal and metal particle size to a wavelength of light (or incident radiation, e.g., laser radiation) to generate surface plasmons. The porosity of the sol-gel material dramatically increases the surface area, and thereby the amount of metal exposed for analyte interaction.

  • Publication number: 20030127801
Abstract: The invention relates to a series of radio controlled vehicles or objects used to play the popular game of tag. Each vehicle or object used to play tag is specially built to contain a means of disabling the vehicle when tagged. In one series the tag zone is positioned in the rear bumper. The second series contains 3 tag zones on the vehicle. The third series contains multiple tag zones on the object being used. Competitors race their vehicles or objects around a contained area trying desperately to tag their opponents in each of the tag zones located on their challengers' vehicles, while trying to avoid from being tagged themselves. Vehicles with multiple tag zones require the competitors to tag each tag zone with their front bumper. The opponent's vehicle will not be disabled until all the tag zones have been tagged in any random sequence. Zone lights will indicate which zone has been tagged. When the last zone light is activated the vehicle's engine is shut down.

  • Publication number: 20020109272
Abstract: Molding techniques and apparatus wherein at least one adjustable edge component can be used to alter the dimensions of the mold cavity between molding operations. Also disclosed are techniques for incorporating reinforcing composite elements into molded plastic parts. Most preferably, a rotomolding technique is used to fabricate a substantially homogenous composite panel for use as a partition or bulkhead.
