  • Patent number: 7266893
Abstract: A filament trimmer includes a rotatable trimmer head having an outwardly extending filament. The trimmer has an upper handle that the operator can grip to operate the trimmer in either a trim mode or an edge mode. In the trim mode, the filament extending outwardly from the trimmer head is positioned in a generally horizontal cutting plane, while in the edge mode the trimmer is reoriented such that the filament is positioned in a generally vertical cutting plane. The upper handle of the trimmer includes dual triggers for selectively starting and stopping rotation of the trimmer head. One trigger is actuated when the trimmer is operated in the trim mode and the other trigger is actuated when the trimmer is operated in the edge mode.

  • Patent number: 7257909
Abstract: A convertible yard tool is disclosed having an implement connected for rotation within a housing, wherein the implement and housing are operated relative to a ground surface in either a snow throwing orientation or a sweeping orientation. When operated in the snow throwing orientation and with the implement being a snow throwing impeller, the yard tool can be used to remove snow from a surface. When operated in the sweeping orientation and with the implement being a broom, the yard tool can be used to move debris from a surface to be cleaned. An adjustable handle may be provided to facilitate movement of the yard tool across various surfaces.

  • Publication number: 20060096135
Abstract: A handle having an adjustable shaft wherein the overall length of the shaft and/or the angular relationship of portions of the shaft can be varied by a user of an associated tool. In one embodiment, the handle includes a first tube, a second tube connected to a working unit of a portable tool, and wherein a portion of the second tube is telescopically received into the first tube. A coupling is provided to receive a portion of the first tube and the second tube. The coupling has a pin stop which engages a pin connected to one of the tubes and defines a limit of a range of relative rotational motion between the first tube and the second tube. In one embodiment, the upper tubular portion of the handle and a control grip are capable of being rotated relative to a working unit.

  • Publication number: 20040168424
Abstract: A deck assembly for a self-propelled, walk-behind rotary lawn rotary mower is provided. The deck assembly is configurable for either front or rear wheel drive and includes a deck defining a cutting chamber which may house a cutting member. The cutting chamber is bound at least in part by a rear enclosure member. The deck assembly also includes a side discharge port having a side discharge port door. A rear discharge port located on a rear portion of the deck is also provided. Preferably, a duct of substantially rectangular cross section extends through the rear enclosure member between the cutting chamber and the rear discharge port. In one embodiment, the duct has a first, uppermost surface and a second, lowermost surface, wherein the first, uppermost surface and the second, lowermost surface both form substantially horizontal planes.

  • Publication number: 20040128838
Abstract: A trimmer head for a filament trimmer includes a housing and a cap that are separably joined together by a screw thread connection. The housing and the cap enclose and carry a supply of flexible filament the free end of which forms a cutting element for trimming grass when the trimmer head is rotated. The screw thread connection comprises mating external and internal screw threads. One of the screw threads has a rib located on top of one of the turns of the screw thread. This rib cooperates with a leading edge of the other screw thread to prevent the housing and cap from being screwed together too tightly.

  • Publication number: 20040128839
Abstract: A filament trimmer comprises a lower housing, an upper handle, and a connecting tube extending between and uniting the lower housing and upper handle. An assist handle is located on the connecting tube to allow an operator to grip and hold the filament trimmer with two hands, namely with one hand on the upper handle and the other hand on the assist handle. The assist handle includes a hub that snaps onto the connecting tube to allow the assist handle to be installed on the connecting tube without using fasteners. The hub has flexible sides that allow the hub to be snapped over the connecting tube with the hub and the connecting tube having mating non-circular cross-sections. The holding force provided by the hub keeps the hub stationary on the connecting tube during normal operation of the trimmer. However, the operator can reposition the assist handle along the connecting tube by applying a greater force than the holding force to slide the assist handle up or down the connecting tube.

  • Patent number: 6742263
Abstract: A filament trimmer includes a rotatable trimmer head having an outwardly extending filament. The trimmer has a rear shield and a front wire guard. A cutoff blade is adjustably mounted on the rear shield to move between two different radially inward and outward positions. In the radially outward position, the cutoff blade cuts off the filament at a length in which the filament extends beyond the front guard prior to the filament becoming shortened due to breakage or wear. In the radially inward position, the cutoff blade cuts off the filament at a length in which the filament extends short of the front guard prior to the filament becoming shortened due to breakage or wear.

  • Patent number: 6442790
Abstract: A blower/vacuum having an air inlet cover and a blower tube, both of which attach to a blower housing for operation in a blower mode. The air inlet cover is preferably able to removably attach to the blower housing and the blower tube. Blower/vacuums of the present invention may generally prohibit operation unless both the blower tube and the air inlet cover are first installed. The blower/vacuum is further adapted to operate in a vacuum mode by removing the air inlet cover and blower tube and replacing the same with a vacuum tube assembly and a vacuum collection container, respectively.
