  • Patent number: 6842928
Abstract: An improved method for detecting a laundry weight in a washing machine employing a sensorless BLDC motor is provided. The motor is rotated until the washer reaches a first speed. The washer then operates in a torque control mode for a predetermined amount of time, and a laundry weight is then determined based on a speed of the motor after the predetermined amount of time has elapsed. In this manner, laundry weight can be accurately determined and the laundry can be effectively washed. Additionally, since a washing machine employing this improved method for detecting does not require a hall sensor and its peripheral circuit manufacture is simplified, and thus cost may be reduced.

  • Patent number: 6747435
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus controlling an operation of a motor and control method thereof enabling to prevent a driving force of the motor from being reduced and actuate the motor for hours stably when a washing machine is operated for hours. The present invention includes the steps of detecting a phase voltage value and a phase current value applied to the motor between forward and backward revolution sections of the motor, calculating a phase resistance value based on the detected phase voltage and current values, and controlling the operation of the motor by controlling a voltage applied to the motor in accordance with the calculated phase resistance value.

  • Publication number: 20030009832
Abstract: A method for detecting a laundry weight in a washing machine employing a sensorless BLDC motor includes the steps of: determining whether a first predetermined time elapses after a motor is initiated and reaches a certain speed; and controlling the motor in a torque control mode when the first predetermined time elapses and detecting a laundry weight on the basis of the motor speed after a second predetermined time elapses. A laundry weight can be accurately measured and the laundry can be effectively washed even in an environment that a voltage is not regularly applied. In addition, since the laundry weight detecting apparatus of a washing machine employing the sensorless BLDC motor does not include a hall sensor and its peripheral circuit, its construction is simple and thus its price can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 6172733
Abstract: An LCD is adapted to be manufactured using a significantly reduced number of masks and masking processes. In order to form a gate of the LCD, aluminum and one of molybdenum, tantalum, tungsten and antimony are sequentially deposited and patterned using a single mask. Cutting a shorting bar for preventing static electricity is performed while a passivation layer is patterned and rinsed. Accordingly, an LCD produced by this method includes a first metal layer, which includes a first contact hole and is disposed on a substrate, a second metal layer which covers the first metal layer and includes a second contact hole which is smaller than the first contact hole, an insulating layer, which covers the second metal layer and includes a third contact hole larger than the second contact hole, and a pad, which includes a conductive layer contacting the second metal layer through the third contact hole on the insulating layer.
