  • Patent number: 9093933
Abstract: A method for monitoring an electric motor employing a pulse-type rotational position sensor includes monitoring a signal output from the pulse-type rotational position sensor and a reference signal associated with a control signal for the electric motor. A position of a rotor of the electric motor coincident with the reference signal is determined based upon a nominal rotor position, a nominal rotational speed of the rotor and a time between the reference signal and a falling edge of the signal output from the pulse-type rotational position sensor. The electric motor is controlled based upon the position of the rotor.

  • Publication number: 20150207444
Abstract: A vehicle includes a motor having a rotor shaft, a transmission having a gear set directly or selectively connected to the motor, a resolver circuit, and a controller. The resolver circuit includes a resolver that measures an absolute position of the shaft, and a resolver-to-digital converter (RDC) which receives the absolute position and generates, via a tracking loop, a raw position signal. The controller includes recorded predetermined frequency characteristics of the RDC and method instructions which cause the controller to receive the raw position signal from the RDC and create a lookup table describing position wobble. The controller compensates for the position wobble at all rotational speeds of the rotor shaft by applying the predetermined frequency characteristics to the position wobble to derive a compensated position signal. The controller also uses the compensated position signal to control an operation of the electric motor.

  • Patent number: 9000701
Abstract: Methods, systems and apparatus are provided for generating voltage commands used to control operation of a permanent magnet machine. For example, a control system is provided that generates voltage command signals for controlling a permanent magnet machine during a transition from an initial operating condition to a final operating condition. The control system includes a processor configured to execute software instructions, and a memory configured to store software instructions accessible by the processor. The software instructions comprise a voltage command generator module. Based on an electrical angular frequency of the permanent magnet machine, and synchronous reference frame current signals, the voltage command generator module is configured to generate ramped voltage command signals that each change linearly in accordance with a slope during a transition period that is set to a rise time.

  • Patent number: 8912724
Abstract: The present invention relates to an LED emitting device and a driving method thereof. The LED emitting device receives an input voltage and supplies a power supply voltage needed for operating an LED channel according to a switching operation of a power switch. The LED emitting device controls the power supply and also controls a load switch between the LED channel and an output voltage. The LED emitting device determines the LED channel to be short circuited when the output voltage is reduced to a predetermined threshold voltage during a predetermined short circuit sense period starting from the time when the output voltage reaches a regulated voltage before the LED channel is dimmed. During the short circuit sense period, the power supply is stopped and the load switch is turned on.

  • Patent number: 8531113
Abstract: A driving apparatus of an LED device is provided. The LED device includes a plurality of LED channels, and each LED channel includes a plurality of LEDs connected in series. A power converter has an output terminal connected to a first terminal of each LED channel, and converts an input voltage into an output voltage to output the output voltage to the output terminal. A plurality of current controllers correspond to the plurality of LED channels, respectively. Each current controller is connected to a second terminal of a corresponding LED channel, and controls a current of the corresponding LED channel. The voltage sensor outputs a sensed voltage corresponding to the output voltage of the output terminal. The fault controller determines whether to stop operation of the power converter by comparing the sensed voltage with a reference voltage.

  • Patent number: 8487575
Abstract: A temperature estimation controller and methods are provided for estimating stator winding temperature over a full range of motor operating speeds. In one implementation, the angular velocity of a motor is determined along with a total power loss for each phase of said motor. The total power loss in each phase comprises stator winding power loss and a core power loss. Stator winding temperatures for each phase of motor can then estimated based on the total power loss in that phase, and a combined thermal impedance for that phase. The combined thermal impedance comprises a first thermal impedance between the stator winding and the stator core, and a second thermal impedance between the stator core and the motor coolant.
