Publication number: 20180352425Abstract: Techniques to manage updates for eSIMs of a secondary wireless device are disclosed. Responsive to a user input, expiration of a timer, receipt of a message from an associated primary wireless device, processing circuitry of the secondary wireless device commands an eUICC to update an eSIM. A secure data connection is established between the eUICC and a network provisioning server, either directly from the secondary wireless device to a cellular wireless network or relayed indirectly via the primary wireless device. The eUICC and the network provisioning server exchange messages in accordance with a BIP process to update the eSIM. The eUICC provides a status to the processing circuitry indicating success or failure for the eSIM update. Upon success, a portion of the secondary wireless device may be placed in a reduced power state. Upon failure, the eSIM update process may repeat up to a maximum number of retries.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 16, 2018Publication date: December 6, 2018Inventors: Chandiramohan VASUDEVAN, Rohan C. MALTHANKAR, Prashant H. VASHI, Viswanath NAGARAJAN, Vikram Bhaskara YERRABOMMANAHALLI, Rafael L. RIVERA-BARRETO, Samuel J. MILLER, Kannan JEYAKUMAR, Li LI

Patent number: 10080119Abstract: Some embodiments relate to methods for provisioning a secondary wireless device with an eSIM for wireless communication and activating multi-SIM functionality between the secondary wireless device and a primary wireless device having a subscribed SIM. The primary wireless device may act as a proxy in obtaining the eSIM for the secondary wireless device. The primary wireless device may then provide, to the cellular network, identifiers of the SIMs of the primary and secondary wireless devices. The primary wireless device may then request initiation of multi-SIM functionality for the two SIMs, and receive an indication that the multi-SIM functionality has been initiated. As an example, the multi-SIM functionality may be implemented by mapping the SIM of the primary wireless device and the SIM of the secondary wireless device (e.g., the provisioned eSIM) to the same Mobile Directory Number (MDN).Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 2017Date of Patent: September 18, 2018Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Vikram B. Publication number: 20180255449Abstract: A server of a wireless operator creates a roaming list based on a user's roaming plan and sends the roaming list to the user's wireless device. The roaming list includes a list of public land mobile networks (PLMNs). When the user travels away from their home wireless network to another geographic area, the wireless device scans based on the roaming list for radio signals. The roaming list contributes to user satisfaction because timely attachment to a radio network while away from home occurs efficiently since the wireless operator creates the roaming list based on both i) roaming agreements that the wireless operator is a party to with other wireless operators, ii) the user's roaming plan, iii) the radio access technology (RAT) capabilities of the wireless device and iv) the RAT capabilities of other wireless operators in particular geographic regions.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 16, 2018Publication date: September 6, 2018Inventors: Francisco J. Gonzalez, Vikram Bhaskara Yerrabommanahalli, Chandiramohan Vasudevan

Publication number: 20180124597Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for performing Wi-Fi authentication in a wireless communication system. Public key cryptography may be used to enhance the confidentiality of the user's permanent identity in transit. In some embodiments, a RSA-OAEP (SHA-256) encryption scheme may be used to protect the permanent identity when the EAP client needs to send the user's permanent identity to the server in the absence of pseudonym or fast re-authentication identity. In some embodiments, a server certificate is used to authenticate a iWLAN tunnel to protect an IMSI during setup of a Wi-Fi call. Using the methods described herein on both or either of the EAP client and server side may offer improved privacy protection.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 25, 2017Publication date: May 3, 2018Inventors: Rohan C. Malthankar, Paresh B. Sawant, Delziel J. Fernandes, Sergey Sitnikov, Arun G. Mathias, Jason A. Novak, Krisztian Kiss, Rafael L. Rivera-Barreto, Chandiramohan Vasudevan, Vladimir M. Appel

Patent number: 9432924Abstract: Systems, methods, and software for providing a preferred roaming list (PRL) to a wireless communication device are provided herein. In one example, a method of operating a wireless local area network (WLAN) device is presented. The method includes receiving a request for network access to the WLAN from a wireless communication device, identifying a PRL for the wireless communication device responsive to at least the request, where the wireless communication device can use the PRL to access a cellular communication service. The method also includes transferring the PRL to the wireless communication device.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 2012Date of Patent: August 30, 2016Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Jasinder Pal Singh, Keith E. Patent number: 9167370Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable media, for facilitating delaying registration in association with roaming networks are provided. In embodiments, a mobile device associated with a border coverage is recognized. Such a recognition may occur based on the mobile device alternating between being connected to a home network and a roaming network. Based on the mobile device being associated with the border coverage, registration with the roaming network to obtain a mobile internet protocol address is delayed.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2012Date of Patent: October 20, 2015Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.PInventors: Jasinder Pal Singh, Chandiramohan Vasudevan

Patent number: 8614966Abstract: A wireless communication device wirelessly initiates data calls to access data channels in a wireless network. The wireless communication device wirelessly transfers data requests indicating a plurality of Uniform Resource Locators, and in response, wirelessly receives user data over the data channels. The wireless communication device determines performance data on a per-URL basis indicating if the data requests utilize existing data channels to receive the user data or if the data requests initiate new data calls to obtain new data channels to receive the user data. The wireless communication device processes the performance data to determine data call efficiency metrics on a per-URL basis.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 2011Date of Patent: December 24, 2013Assignee: Sprint Communications Company L.P.Inventors: Jasinder Pal Singh, Keith E. Moll, Chandiramohan Vasudevan
