Patent number: 12197387Abstract: Described herein are technologies that provide an element of security related to file system operations. Individual nodes in a file system, such as a directory or a file, can be associated with information that describes how to handle letter case when a file name included in a file system operation request is used to locate a file in the file system. For example, a case sensitive designation associated with a directory can require a case sensitive match between a file name included in a request and a file name included in the directory, in order to perform the requested file system operation. In another example, a case preferring designation associated with a directory first checks for a case sensitive match between file names. If a case sensitive match does not exist, then a case insensitive match between the file names can be used to perform the requested file system operation.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2022Date of Patent: January 14, 2025Assignee: MICROSOFT TECHNOLOGY LICENSING, LLCInventors: Neal Robert Christiansen, Chandra Kumar Konamki Vijayamuneeswaralu, Craig Ashley Barkhouse, Sven Groot, John Andrew Starks

Publication number: 20240427737Abstract: The system described herein introduces a file system operation that enables a file system to delete a directory tree without the overhead associated with opening each file in the directory tree, marking the file for deletion, and closing the file. Accordingly, the file system is able to delete directories and files in the directory tree independent of communicating with, and being transparent to, filter drivers in the operating system. The file system operation is implemented via a directory tree delete attribute included in a request for deletion of a directory tree. The file system can perform the file system operation in a foreground manner or in a deferred manner based on the directory tree delete attribute respectively specifying foreground deletion or deferred deletion. By operating on files and directories in a single invocation, the file system can optimize overheads related to security checks and data transfer across a user-to-kernel boundary.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 23, 2023Publication date: December 26, 2024Inventors: Neal Robert CHRISTIANSEN, Chandra Kumar Konamki VIJAYAMUNEESWARALU, Neeraj Kumar SINGH

Publication number: 20240193413Abstract: An apparatus and method for efficiently creating less computationally intensive nodes for a neural network. In various implementations, a computing system includes a memory that stores multiple input data values for training a neural network, and a processor. Rather than determine a bit width P of an integer accumulator of a node of the neural network based on bit widths of the input data values and corresponding weight values, the processor selects the bit width P during training. The processor adjusts the magnitudes of the weight values during iterative stages of training the node such that an L1 norm value of the weight values of the node does not exceed a corresponding weight magnitude limit.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 13, 2022Publication date: June 13, 2024Inventors: Ian Charles Colbert, Mehdi Saeedi, Arun Coimbatore Ramachandran, Chandra Kumar Ramasamy, Gabor Sines, Prakash Sathyanath Raghavendra, Alessandro Pappalardo

Patent number: 11602175Abstract: The present invention provides a conductive substrate useful for Joule heating, such as in an electronic smoking article. Particularly, the invention provides a resistive heating element formed of a conductive substrate. The conductive substrate comprises an electrically conductive material and a carbonaceous additive, such as a binder material. The conductive substrate is carbonized in that it is subjected to calcining conditions to effectively reduce the carbonaceous additive to its carbon skeleton. It has been found that such carbonized substrate has surprisingly improved resistance properties in relation a substrate of the same formulation that is not carbonized. The carbonized substrate can include an aerosol precursor material. The formed resistive heating element can be included in an electronic smoking article to simultaneously provide resistive heating and aerosol formation with a single, unitary component.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2020Date of Patent: March 14, 2023Assignee: RAI Strategic Holdings, Inc.Inventors: David William Griffith, Jr., Yi-Ping Chang, Calvin W. Publication number: 20210406690Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods for implementing one-sided per-kernel clipping and weight transformation for neural networks are disclosed. Various parameters of a neural network are quantized from higher-bit representations to lower-bit representations to reduce memory utilization and power consumption. To exploit the effective range of quantized representations, positively biased weights are clipped and negated before convolution. Then, the results are rescaled back after convolution. A one-sided clipping technique is used for transforming weights to exploit the quantization range effectively, with the side chosen to be clipped being the biased side. This technique uses a global strategy for clipping without requiring skilled expertise. This approach allows the system to retain as much information as possible without losing unnecessary accuracy when quantizing parameters from higher-bit representations to lower-bit representations.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 25, 2020Publication date: December 30, 2021Inventors: Arun Coimbatore Ramachandran, Chandra Kumar Ramasamy, Keerthan S.
