  • Patent number: 10940409
Abstract: Cartridge components are configured to trap the upper end of a concave housing portion to define an enclosure surrounding a filter element. A disclosed embodiment includes a concave metal housing portion and plastic cartridge components, but other materials may be employed. An upper end cap spans the open end of the housing portion and defines at least one fluid flow aperture. A retainer surrounds the housing portion and is secured to the first component, with engagement features on the housing portion trapped between the upper end cap and retainer. The upper end cap and retainer may be secured to each other by spin welding, threads, adhesive or other suitable means. The outside circumference of one or both of the upper end cap and retainer may be provided with lugs, threads, bosses or other features to interface with complimentary features on the head for securing the cartridge to a head.

  • Publication number: 20180290086
Abstract: A fuel filter element includes an upper endcap, lower endcap, and a tubular filter media extending between the two. A water separator is located substantially within a first annular space defined by the filter media, with which it axially overlaps. A pin projects from the lower end of the filter element to fill a drain at the bottom of a filter enclosure. The filter element supports two seals of different diameters, axially offset from each other and configured to receive a standpipe to define a flow path for separated water to enter the standpipe. The filter element may include a drainage cap which defines an open volume and receives water draining through the lower endcap from a second annular space between filter media and a water separator. The invention further relates to an assembly including a standpipe and configured to mate with the disclosed filter element.

  • Publication number: 20150090651
Abstract: A filter cartridge in accordance with the present disclosure has a longitudinal axis and comprises a housing, a filter element, and a collar. The housing has a generally cylindrical sidewall and defines an open first end, an axially opposite second end, and a flange projecting radially away from the axis at the first end. The filter element has a ring of filter media circumscribing the axis and extending between first and second end caps. The first end cap has a generally cylindrical wall extending axially between first and second peripheral rims. The wall defines first and second seal glands adjacent the first and second rims which receive first and second seal members, respectively. A ledge projects radially outwardly from the cylindrical wall. The collar has an annular sidewall having a shoulder projecting from an inner surface. The ledge and the shoulder radially overlap and retain the flange therebetween.

The second collar has an annular sidewall having a shoulder projecting from an inner surface. The ledge and the shoulder radially overlap to retain the flange. The first collar may define axially-oriented grooves configured to receive corresponding radial projections of the first end cap, axially securing the filter element within the housing.
