  • Publication number: 20030067228
Abstract: A compact, self contained, heat dissipative, brushless motor assembly which has a stator fixedly mounted onto a hub. Located about the stator is a rotor with a shaft being connected to the rotor which is conducted through a center hole formed within the hub. A heat sink is attached to the hub. A controller is mounted on the heat sink with some of the heat generated by the controller to be dissipated by the heat sink. Rotation of the rotor causes rotation of a shaft which passes through the center through hole with this shaft to be optionally connectable to a planetary gear system. The planetary gear system is to be mounted within an alcove formed within the heat sink. The rotor includes a cover which includes a series of venting holes. The motor assembly is to be enclosed by a casing. Heat from the venting holes is to be conducted into the ambient through the casing.

  • Patent number: 6321863
Abstract: A compact, self contained hub motor to be mounted on a wheeled vehicle wheel in order for a wheeled vehicle to be driven electrically. The wheel has a hub within which is mounted a stationary center shaft. Mounted about the center shaft is a motor housing which is rotationally mounted on the center shaft. The motor housing has an internal chamber. Within the internal chamber is mounted a motor. Operation of the motor causes rotation of the motor housing which simultaneously drives the wheeled vehicle wheel on which the motor is mounted.

  • Patent number: 3976924
Abstract: A single phase, two pole A.C. split-phase unidirectional induction motor uses a current sensing relay and connects a main winding with a single phase A.C. electrical power source while a pair of associated relay-contacts operably connect a starting winding to the power source with the contacts closing in response to a sensed first predetermined main winding current and opening in response to a second lesser predetermined main winding current. Each of the starting winding poles are spaced from each of the main winding poles by less than ninety physical degrees in the direction of rotor rotation in order to provide the first predetermined main winding current at a first predetermined rotor speed and the second predetermined main winding current at a second predetermined speed and torque to maintain the heating of the starting winding within a predetermined temperature while the pair of relay contacts remain in the closed condition.
