Abstract: A method includes providing a sample including a carbon capture solvent and degradation products produced by a carbon capture operation. The method includes forming a mobile phase, where the mobile phase is buffered to a pH of at least 9; and diluting the sample, where a diluent used is buffered to a pH of at least 9, and where the diluent used has the same composition as the mobile phase at the start of the method. The method includes obtaining fractions of the solution by separating the sample with a hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) system, where the HILIC system includes a stationary phase and the mobile phase; and measuring substances in the fractions with a detector. The method includes identifying the carbon capture solvent and degradation products based on a response of the detector as compared to the response of the detector from a set of standards.

Abstract: A method to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from an engine including combusting fuel in the engine to yield exhaust gas, feeding a coolant to the engine head at a first temperature, and recovering an engine coolant at a second temperature. The method further includes flowing a first portion of the engine head coolant through a restricting valve to increase a temperature of the first portion of the engine head coolant to a third temperature, feeding the first portion of the engine head coolant from the restricting valve to the engine block, and recovering an engine block coolant at a fourth temperature. A second portion of the engine head coolant is recirculated back to the engine head. A system including an engine head, an engine block, a restricting valve in a first flow line, and a second flow line exiting the engine head to recirculate coolant back towards the engine head.

Abstract: A hydrogen generation and carbon capture system includes a fuel reformer, hydrogen purifier, fuel cell, three heat exchangers, two knockout drums, absorber, burner feed pressure regulator, burner, flash tank, solvent trim cooler, and condenser. A process for hydrogen generation and carbon capture includes pumping, heating, and reforming a fuel and water feed. The process includes extracting hydrogen from a raw syngas, directing hydrogen to a fuel cell, separating liquid from a cooled carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide rich syngas mixture and feeding this stream to an absorber. The process includes reducing pressure and burning the syngas mixture, heating the carbon dioxide rich solvent stream, and cooling the cooled regenerated solvent. The process includes heating the heated carbon dioxide rich solvent stream, separating carbon dioxide from the stream, condensing the carbon dioxide stream, and separating liquid from the gas/liquid mixture.
