  • Patent number: 8705389
Abstract: A method and apparatus for optimizing the system capacity of an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system that uses with Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) antennas. In a receiver, a target quality of service (QoS) metric and reference data rate are set. The target QoS metric may be set to a predetermined value and/or may be adjusted dynamically with respect to packet error rate (PER) by a slow outer-loop control processor. The QoS of received signals are compared to the target QoS. Depending on the comparison, the receiver generates a channel quality indicator (CQI) which is sent to the transmitter. The CQI is a one or two bit indicator which indicates to the transmitter to disable, adjust or maintain data transmission rates of particular sub-carriers, groups of sub-carriers per transmit antenna, or groups of sub-carriers across all transmit antennas. At the transmitter, the transmitted data rate is disabled, adjusted or maintained.

  • Patent number: 8705490
Abstract: A server device may identify that a user device is connected to a first radio access network (“RAN”), via a first technology. The server device may identify that the user device is capable of accessing a second RAN, via a second technology, where the second RAN is different from the first RAN, and where the second technology is different from the first technology. The server device may also receive an indication that the first RAN is congested. The server device may further determine, based on the indication that first RAN is congested, and further based on identifying that the user device is capable of accessing the second RAN via the second technology, that the user device should be handed over to the second RAN. Additionally, the server device may instruct the user device to connect to the second RAN via the second technology.

  • Patent number: 8705866
Abstract: A method and apparatus is described here that categorizes images by extracting regions and describing the regions with a 16-dimensional subscene feature vector, which is a concatenation of color, texture, and spatial feature vectors. By comparing the spatial feature vectors in images with similarly-obtained feature vectors in a Gaussian mixture based model pool (obtained in a subscene modeling phase), the images may be categorized (in a subscene recognition phase) with probabilities relating to each region or subscene. Higher probabilities are likelier correlations. The device may be a single or multiple core CPU, or parallelized vector processor for characterizing many images. The images may be photographs, videos, or video stills, without restriction. When used real-time, the method may be used for visual searching or sorting.

  • Patent number: 8704798
Abstract: A detecting device and method for a capacitive touch screen is proposed. The present invention employs a multiple-electrode driving mode, which sequentially drives sets of driving electrodes among driving electrodes. A reduced image is generated from the signals of a plurality of detecting electrodes. In addition, a single-electrode driving mode is employed to drive the first and the last driving electrodes, respectively, thereby obtaining first- and second-side 1D sensing information for single-electrode driving from the signals of the detecting electrodes, respectively. An expanded image can be generated based on the first-side 1D sensing information for single-electrode driving, the reduced image and the second-side 1D sensing information for single-electrode driving in order to detect approaches or touches made by external conductive objects to the capacitive touch screen.

  • Patent number: 8703280
Abstract: Provided is a high-shielding reflective film, and its manufacturing method. This film is fabricated from an optical reflective film and a polarizer. The optical reflective film and the polarizer are combined by a means of a specific scheme. The optical reflective film is formed by stacking multiple layers of dielectric optical interference films with different materials. The optical reflective film particularly applies a principle of optical interference to reflect the most of the incident light, and allow some transmission. The polarizer is to absorb half of the incident light, and allow the other half to pass through. Since the characteristics of reflection between the reflective film and the polarizer are different, the reflectance difference therefor may increase. By which, the high-shielding reflective film achieves a one-way mirror with anti-peep effect since it substantially increases the reflectance difference among the incident lights from the various directions.
