  • Publication number: 20020181410
Abstract: A reverse transmission controlling method in a mobile communication system. After receiving forward information commanding a reverse data rate change on a forward channel from a base station, a mobile station increases its reverse data rate to a data rate equal to or lower than a maximum data rate if the forward information commands a reverse data rate increase, determines whether the increased data rate can be further increased for the next frame, and transmits the determination result with information representing the increased data rate to the base station.

  • Patent number: 6477157
Abstract: A handoff method in a CDMA communication system using Walsh codes and quasi-orthogonal codes. To implement a handoff, a new base station to which a call is switched notifies a serving base station of an available quasi-orthogonal code, if the new base station has no available Walsh codes. The serving base station transmits a handoff direction message to a mobile station and the mobile station communicate with the new base station using the quasi-orthogonal code included in the handoff direction message.

  • Publication number: 20020136286
Abstract: A reverse data rate controlling method in a mobile communication system for transmission of packet data is provided. In an embodiment of the present invention, an RRL (Reverse Rate Limit) message includes an ignore RAB (Reverse Activity Bit) field to ensure a predetermined data rate for a particular access terminal (AT). In another embodiment of the present invention, an access probability is set for each data rate in the RRL message. Upon receipt of an RAB, an AT compares a random number with the access probability for its data rate and increases or decreases the data rate according to the comparison result.

  • Publication number: 20020118698
Abstract: A system architecture for ensuring QoS levels to different inter-media streams or media streams of an intra-media stream. In such a system, an RLP layer classifies transmission data streams by priority level and separates each transmission data stream into data streams of predetermined lengths according to characteristics of the data streams. A MUX layer segments the separated data streams according to a data rate. A plurality of MQC channels encode the segmented data at a predetermined code rate, repeat code symbol sequences with higher priority levels, and puncture code symbol sequences with lower priority levels. A serial concatenator serially concatenates the repeated and punctured code symbol sequences.

  • Publication number: 20020093937
Abstract: There is provided a data transmitting/receiving method in an HARQ data communication system. To transmit a physical layer information stream having a plurality of sub-blocks, each sub-block having an error correction code, a QoS (Quality of Service), and a priority if the sub-blocks has a different QoS, the encoded physical layer information stream is divided into a plurality of slots. The slot data are sequentially transmitted to a receiver in predetermined time intervals. If an HARQ (Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request) message for the initial slot data is received from the receiver, indicating that at least one of the sub-block in the initial slot data has a reception error and the other sub-blocks are good in reception, slot data with a sub-block having an error repeated within the number of the sub-blocks is retransmitted after transmission of initial slot data.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for transmitting packet data and side information including a sequence number of the packet data in a CDMA mobile communication system employing a HARQ scheme for performing retransmission in response to a retransmission request message after initial transmission. The method comprises transmitting the packet data and the side information over a dedicated channel during the initial transmission; and transmitting the packet data and the side information over a common channel during the retransmission. The dedicated channel is a dedicated physical channel (DPCH), and the common channel is a physical downlink shared channel (DSCH).

  • Publication number: 20020049068
Abstract: A method and apparatus for retransmitting data in a mobile communication system wherein a receiver determines whether an initial data block received from a transmitter has an error. Upon detecting an error from the initial data block, the receiver estimates a current channel state and determines a retransmission frequency and a power level of the initial data block according to the estimated current channel state. Thereafter, the receiver transmits a retransmission request message of the initial data block together with the determined retransmission frequency and the determined power level to the transmitter. The transmitter retransmits the initial data block as many times as the retransmission frequency at the requested power level. The receiver then determines whether the retransmitted data blocks have errors, and provides the retransmitted data blocks to an upper layer upon failure to detect errors from the retransmitted data blocks.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method for assigning a channel to a UE by a UTRAN in a CDMA communication system. The UTRAN receives a selected one of a plurality of access preamble signatures from the UE, and selects one of a plurality of channel assignment signatures associated with the received access preamble signature in order to assign one of a plurality of physical common packet channels (PCPCHs) unused in the UTRAN. The UTRAN selects one of the access preamble signatures depending on a maximum data rate required when the UE transmits data. Further, the UTRAN selects one of the unused PCPCH channels depending on the received access preamble signature and the selected channel assignment signature.
