  • Patent number: 8013229
Abstract: There is provided a method for automatically creating a music video thumbnail (50) from a music video signal (12). The music video signal is separated into a music signal (16) and a video signal (18). The music signal is analysed by detecting similarity regions and the sections of the music signal corresponding to the chorus are extracted (20). The video signal is analysed by detecting repeated lyrics (34). The extracted chorus sections from the music signal and the sections of the video signal containing repeated lyrics are then matched. A matched pair is then selected for use in the music video thumbnail and the timing of the pair are aligned (42) to form the thumbnail.

  • Publication number: 20060065102
Abstract: An embodiment is related to automatic summarization for digital audio raw data (12), more specifically, for identifying pure music and vocal music (40,60) from digital audio data by extracting distinctive features from music frames (73,74,75,76), designing a classifier and determining the classification parameters (20) using adaptive learning/training algorithm (36), and identifying music into pure music or vocal music according to the classifier. For pure music, temporal, spectral and cepstral features are calculated to characterise the musical content, and an adaptive clustering method is used to structure the musical content according to calculated features. The summary (22,24,26,48,52,70,72) is created according to clustered result and domain-based music knowledge (50,150). For vocal music, voice related features are extracted and used to structure the musical content, and similarly, the music summary is created in terms of structured content and heuristic rules related to music genres.

  • Patent number: 6988201
Abstract: A method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for digital audio watermarking of wavetable (WT) format audio, including downloadable sounds (DLS) (110), are disclosed. Correspondingly, a method, an apparatus, and a computer program product for extracting watermarks (126, 552) from a digital audio watermarked WT audio (162, 510) are disclosed. In particular, a digital audio watermark (126) is embedded (140, 130) in both articulation parameters (122) and sample data (124) of a DLS (110). A finite automaton module (220) is used to implement adaptive coding (130) of the sample data (124). Virtual parameters (430) are generated for information hiding (140) applied to the articulation parameters (122). Optionally, playback of the WT (152) can be limited by an embedded control signal. Brief overviews of MIDI and DLS are provided.

  • Publication number: 20040093354
Abstract: The invention relates to content-based audio/music retrieval and other content-based multimedia information retrieval. In one aspect the present invention provides a method of representing audio/musical information in a digital representation suitable for use in content-based information indexing and retrieval including the steps of: determining a first representation including a set of peaks and valley corresponding to maximum and minimum values respectively of at least one characteristic of the audio/music, and; determining a second representation including values representing relative differences between peaks and valleys. The invention presents a method and a system for content-based music retrieval. A music score database is constructed to provide a unique representation of real music songs. Score keywords are extracted from the music score as the features of the musing songs.

  • Publication number: 20040059918
Abstract: The invention provides a system and method of rapidly embedding and extracting digital watermarks into and from digital compressed audio content. The watermark may be embedded or extracted in both compressed and uncompressed formats. While the watermark is inaudible within its host signal and extremely difficult to remove via unauthorized access, it may be easily extracted by an authorized user. The watermark is also highly resistant to incidental and intentional distortion, alteration or copying. The embedded watermark does not adversely affect the audio quality, e.g., audibility, or result in the alteration of the bit rates in a compressed domain signal and is compatible with state-of-the-art signal processing methods and phenomenon, such as D/A and A/D conversions, and the overlay of noise and electrical and magnetic interference, filtering, re-sampling, and in particular, decoding and re-encoding processes. FIG. 1 of the drawings shall accompany the publication of the abstract.

  • Patent number: 6674861
Abstract: A method, an apparatus and a computer program product for adaptive, content-based watermark embedding of a digital audio signal (100) are disclosed. Corresponding watermark extracting techniques are also disclosed. Watermark information (102) is encrypted (120) using an audio digest signal, i.e. a watermark key (108). To optimally balance inaudibility and robustness when embedding and extracting watermarks (450), the original audio signal (100) is divided into fixed-length frames (1100, 1120, 1130) in the time domain. Echoes (S′[n], S″[n]) are embedded in the original audio signal (100) to represent the watermark (450). The watermark (450) is generated by delaying and scaling the original audio signal (100) and embedding it in the audio signal (100). An embedding scheme (104) is designed for each frame (1100, 1120, 1130) according to its properties in the frequency domain.
