    Abstract: A rolling bearing unit for a wheel includes an outer ring member having a flange portion formed on its outer periphery and fitted to a vehicle body-side member, an inner ring member rotatably fitted in the outer ring member, and double-row rolling elements arranged between the outer ring member and the inner ring member. The flange portion includes a first flange portion formed on the upper-side portion of the outer periphery, and a second flange portion and a third flange portion formed on the lower-side portion of the outer periphery. Each of the first, second and third flange portion has a bolt-hole used to fit the outer ring member to the vehicle body-side member. The first flange portion is formed in such a manner that the bolt-hole thereof is positioned on the vertical line that passes through the rotational center of the outer ring member.

    Abstract: A wheel bearing apparatus includes a roller bearing, an inner shaft having an outer circumferential surface to which an inner ring of the roller bearing is installed, a coupler ring attached to an end portion of the inner shaft, and a caulked portion provided in an end portion of the inner shaft so as to fix the coupler ring and the roller bearing to the inner shaft so as to be immovable in an axial direction of the inner shaft. An outer diameter of the coupler ring is set smaller than a diameter of a shoulder portion of the inner ring. Alternatively, a protruding portion is provided in any one of opposing end surfaces of the coupler ring and the inner ring, whereby the coupler ring is arranged away from a seal member. Accordingly, it is possible to avoid an interference of the coupler ring with the seal member.

The inner ring shaft portion is made up of a large diameter shaft portion which is formed on an outer circumferential surface of the second inner ring side raceway and a small diameter shaft portion which is inserted into a shaft fitting hole in the hub wheel in such a manner as to pass therethrough. In addition, the inner ring shaft portion is connected to the hub wheel by forming a calking portion by calking an end portion of the small diameter shaft portion.

    Abstract: In a wheel bearing of the invention, a labyrinth clearance is formed between a flange for the mounting of a wheel thereon and an end face of an outer ring member. A peripheral groove is formed in an inner peripheral surface of that end portion of the outer ring member disposed close to the flange. A sealing device mounted at that end portion of an annular space disposed close to the flange is composed of a single seal ring having a seal member formed integrally on a metal core member. A press-fitting portion is formed at an outer peripheral portion of the seal member, and is press-fitted in the peripheral groove to be fixed thereto. An inner peripheral lip is formed at an inner peripheral portion of the seal member, and is held in sliding contact with a curved surface portion interconnecting an inner peripheral surface of the inner ring member and a side face of the flange.
