  • Patent number: 5355777
Abstract: A cooking device having an outer pot and an inner pot removally suspended in the outer pot is proposed for better and easier cooking of foodstuff. The inner pot is made of thermally conductive, metallic material and is adapted for initially cooking foodstuff with a separate heater for a short period of time. The outer pot is made into a thermally insulated construction and adapted to house the inner pot containing the semi-cooked foodstuff in the outer pot in a thermally insulated manner, so as to allow the semi-cooked foodstuff to complete the cooking by its own latent heat without a further heating by an external heat supply means.

  • Patent number: 5274517
Abstract: A disc clamp for use within a disc drive to secure a plurality of information storage discs to a spindle hub on a disc drive spindle motor assembly. The disc clamp is secured to the spindle hub by a plurality of hub screws. The disc clamp is fabricated from a single piece of aluminum and includes a substantially flat inner ring section, an outer ring section having a rounded engaging surface and a spring section that couples the inner ring section to the outer ring section. The spring section is thinner than both the inner and outer ring sections. The inner ring section has a plurality of screwholes therein for receiving the hub screws.

  • Patent number: 5162803
Abstract: A combination of doubly folded parallel plate beam combiners or dividers, configured to produce a desired composite beam for use in arrays of antenna elements. The doubly folded combiner or divider functions to expand a transmitted beam, or contract a received beam, in one selected plane. In a transmit mode, a single beam can be expanded first in one direction by a first divider, then expanded in a perpendicular direction by a stack of additional dividers coupled to the first. Optional phase shifting circuits provide beam steering as desired. Second and other additional beams can be processed in the same manner, to produce a composite output of multiple beams for transmission by an antenna array. Another aspect of the invention involves the use of a beam forming structure of this type in conjunction with an array of transmit/receive microwave modules providing amplification and phase shifting functions, and an array of printed circuit antenna elements.

  • Patent number: 5160339
Abstract: An improved surgical clip having first and second leg members joined at their proximal ends by resilient hinge means and terminating at their distal ends in latch means. Each leg member has an outer surface and a clamping inner surface. The outer surface of each leg member is configured to be accepted by the jaws of a clip applier. The improvement in the clip design specifically relates to the design of the clamping inner surface of each leg member of the clip. The clamping inner surface of the first leg member has a convex radius of curvature extending transversely across at least a portion of the width of the first leg member, and the clamping inner surface of the second leg member has a concave radius of curvature extending transversely across at least a portion of the width of the second leg member. The radius of curvature of the clamping inner surface of the first leg member is smaller than, and complementary to, the radius of curvature of the clamping inner surface of the second leg member.

  • Patent number: 4975712
Abstract: A two-dimensionally scannable antenna system for transmission or receiving a microwave beam over a wide angular region, using multiple parallel plate lenses for focusing and to provide, in conjunction with a like number of phase shifters, scanning of the beam in one transverse direction, such as in azimuth. The multiple parallel plate lenses provide output signals for processing by a single diode grid lens, which provides for deflection of the beam about the other transverse axis, to scan the beam in elevation. The diode grid lens includes parallel conductive plates with a thickness tapered from a minimum value near the input and output of the diode grid lens, to a maximum value over most of the length of the diode grid lens. This increased thickness of the plates reduces the required number of switchable diodes in the diode grid lens. The device of the invention has fewer components, lower power consumption and corresponding lower cost than similar configurations available prior to the present invention.
