    Abstract: A luminance adjustment apparatus for a plasma display panel (PDP) is proposed. The luminance adjustment apparatus includes a luminance controller, a gray level shifter and a power controller. The luminance controller outputs a gray level shifting signal and a power adjustment signal. The gray level shifter receives a first luminance video signal and the gray level shifting signal, after the first luminance video signal being level shifted according to the gray level shifting signal, a gray level shifted video signal is output. The power controller is used to receive the gray level shifted video signal and the power adjustment signal, after the gray level shifted video signal being power adjusted by the power adjustment signal, a sub-field controlling signal is output. This enables the preservation of image gradation when adjusting luminance of a video image.

    Abstract: The display electrode of plasma display panel includes transparent electrodes made by Indium Tin Oxide and auxiliary electrodes made by metal. Transparent electrode induces gas discharge to excite the phosphorus to emit the visible ray. Auxiliary electrode decreases the aperture area of a cell to decrease the ratio of the light of the cell in a pixel. On the transparent electrode a protrusion protruded into a cell would increase the luminous intensity of the cell, and on the auxiliary electrode decrease the luminous rate of the cell. Validly designed protrusions on transparent electrodes or on auxiliary electrodes in a pixel would get better luminous intensity and rise up the color temperature.

    Abstract: An addressing driving method for a plasma display is described. The plasma display comprises at least a scan line and at least a common electrode. The addressing driving method uses the following driving scheme. Initially the plasma display is in a reset period, a scanning voltage is used to drive the scan line to equalize the wall charge distribution in cell. When the plasma display is in an addressing period, a time-varying common voltage is applied to the common electrode. Finally, the plasma display is in a sustain period, the display cells are sustained in discharge condition. The driving scheme not only discharge lag for high speed addressing but the voltage margin of the panel voltage is also increased.
