Patent number: 5968617Abstract: A hollow transparent decorated object and a method of decorating a hollow transparent object wherein an elongated cylindrical side wall is simultaneously imprinted with an inner design and an outer design separated by a background substrate. The inner and outer design and the background substrate form a single decal, the background substrate and outer design having aligned openings which in the outer design forms an integral part of the outer design through which a viewer may see the inner design opposite the opening. The method involves applying an inner design and an outer design having an opening between which is positioned a background substrate having an opening aligned with the outer design opening and all forming a single decal.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1997Date of Patent: October 19, 1999Inventor: Charles A. Patent number: 5279590Abstract: Apparatus for introducing a catheter into a patient's vein comprises a tubular housing having an axially extending guide slot extending from a point adjacent the forward end of the housing to a point adjacent the rear end of the housing. A tubular transparent mount for a hollow hypodermic needle is slidably mounted in the tubular housing with the sharpened end of the needle projecting forwardly. The overall length of the needle mount and needle is less than the length of the housing. A locking element rotatably mounted on the needle mount projects through the elongated slot and is selectively engaged with recesses provided in the forward and rear end wall portions of the elongated slot, by rotation relative to the needle mount, to lock the needle mount in an operative position with the needle projecting out of the housing, or an inoperative position with the needle retracted into the housing.Type: GrantFiled: August 21, 1992Date of Patent: January 18, 1994Assignee: Gesco International, Inc.Inventors: George E. Sinko, Charles A. Jones, H. Douglas Courtney

Patent number: 5221263Abstract: An apparatus for inserting a catheter into a selected vein and to a selected position within such vein comprises a tubular sheath mountable in surrounding relation to a percutaneous needle to permit the distal end of the tubular sheath to enter the vein penetrated by the needle. The tubular sheath is rigidly bonded in the bore of a hub portion of an operating element and has a pair of diametrically opposed, longitudinal score lines. The hub element is longitudinally divided by longitudinal slots aligned with the sheath score lines except for two thin walled integral connecting sections having score lines aligned with the sheath score lines. A pair of diametrically opposed, manually graspable wing portions are integrally formed on the hub element intermediate the hub score lines to permit the longitudinal severance of the hub and sheath to remove same from a catheter traversing the bores of the hub element and sheath to enter the selected vein after the needle is removed.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1992Date of Patent: June 22, 1993Assignee: Gesco International, Inc.Inventors: George E. Sinko, Charles A. Jones

Patent number: 5195513Abstract: A prosthesis for protecting the palate of a small infant from injury by airway or other tubes required to be maintained in the throat of an infant patient for extended periods, comprises a thin mass of injection molded, soft, resiliently deformable plastic having an upper surface contoured to conform to a normal palate of a healthy infant of approximately the same size as the patient. The plastic mass incorporates an integral, downwardly opening passage for an air way tube, thus disposing the plastic mass between the tube and the palate of the infant patient.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1992Date of Patent: March 23, 1993Assignee: Gesco International, Inc.Inventors: George E. Sinko, Charles A. Jones

Patent number: 4085783Abstract: The invention provides processes and apparatus for removing bark from logs. The logs are subjected to mechanically applied compression forces acting against the sides of the logs, these forces being such as to expel juices from the ends of the logs. The pressure on a log is preferably between 500 and 3,000 p.s.i. per square inch measured on the area of the diametrical plane of the log. This compression provides loosening the bark which can then be readily removed. Preferably, a stack of logs is simultaneously compressed by means of a hydraulic press, and the juices which are expelled from the ends of the log are collected for sale as a by-product. The loosened bark on the log is then removed by a mechanical frictional treatment.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 1976Date of Patent: April 25, 1978Inventor: Charles A. Jones

Patent number: 3981338Abstract: A method of making a compressed wood product such as a building panel from raw wood. Tree length logs are cut to convenient lengths, debarked and dried, and then placed in a mold where they are immersed in suitable liquid adhesive and compressed to a dimension smaller than that finally required. The logs are then allowed to expand while still immersed in the adhesive, and are then again compressed to the final desired thickness of the panel. The logs are then subjected to elevated temperature to harden the adhesive, preferably while expansion of the logs is prevented. The invention also comprises special apparatus for carrying out the process, and particularly a mobile platform for carrying the logs and forming part of the mold, and a cover and clamp means for maintaining pressure on the wood.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1975Date of Patent: September 21, 1976Inventor: Charles A.
