  • Patent number: 5721194
Abstract: The present invention relates to a tuneable fringe effect capacitor for conducting radio frequency energy. The capacitor includes a thin film of ferroelectric material, a pair of films of a conductive material deposited on the ferroelectric film with a gap between the films, and a substrate for the ferroelectric material and the conductive films. The capacitance value across the gap is varied by applying a voltage to the ferroelectric material and thereby altering the dielectric constant of the ferroelectric material.

  • Patent number: 5710887
Abstract: A system for facilitating commercial transactions, between a plurality of customers and at least one supplier of items over a computer driven network capable of providing communications between the supplier and at least one customer site associated with each customer. Each site includes an associated display and an input device through which the customer can input information into the system. At least one supplier is presented on the display for selection by the customer using the input device. Similarly items from a supplier can be displayed for the customer to observe. Associated with a supplier of such items is an item database including information on presented items. Pricing subsystem receives information from the item database to determine the cost associated with a presented item. In addition a customer information database stores information relating to the customer. Associated with each customer is a customer monitoring object for each customer.

  • Patent number: 4464184
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the control of the precoating process employed in an effluent filtration baghouse are described. An electrically operated pressure switch is provided to indicate the precoat duct vacuum pressure by measuring the vacuum pressure of the clean side of the baghouse. Should a precoat duct pressure insufficient to sustain the flow of precoat material be indicated, the pressure switch will halt the feed of precoat material into the precoat duct, thus avoiding the congestion of the precoat duct by the precoat material and the consequent inadequate precoating of the baghouse bags.

  • Patent number: 4268218
Abstract: A method for preventing the overcharging of coal into a coke oven system in which preheated coal is transported from a storage container to the coke ovens by means of a substantially enclosed continuous conveyor system filled with inert gas. A portion of inert gas within the enclosed conveyor system is carried along with the coal into the coke oven itself. During filling of the oven, this inert gas is carried up and out of the oven standpipes. When the oven becomes filled, however, the standpipe escape route becomes blocked resulting in a rapid pressure build-up within the system. This rapid pressure build-up is utilized to generate a signal to stop further filling of the oven. The instant method may be employed as a primary regulating system, but is more preferably employed as a back-up to conventional sensor probes used for regulating the level of coal.

  • Patent number: 4181459
Abstract: In the handling and charging of pre-heated coal, the coal is transported from a coal storage container to the oven chambers by an enclosed continuous conveyor system. The coke oven chambers are charged individually in a continual manner by transporting a measured amount of coal from the container, sufficient to fill a respective chamber. If coal, due to a malfunction, passes beyond the intended charging hole, it can jam the drive area causing extensive damage. To prevent this, a safety device is provided which includes a sensing device, e.g. a pivotally mounted switch for determining the presence of coal on the conveyor and associated therewith, a time delay system for determining if a particular amount of coal, to which the sensor is responding, is of sufficient volume to cause jamming of the conveyor drive system.
