  • Patent number: 4790481
Abstract: A pop-up irrigation sprinkler which includes a riser which is forced by water pressure up out of a body through a cover attached to the top of the body. The riser is normally held in a retracted position by a coil spring. A nozzle is removably attached to the upper end of the riser. An adjustable screw is threaded into the nozzle to adjust the flow rate of water through the nozzle to control both the flow rate and the radius of the watering pattern. An elongated filter is removably mounted on the inner end of the nozzle, and the filter extends down into the riser. The filter has a head having an orifice therein and which defines a conical seat for the screw. An adapter is interposed between the nozzle and the riser and serves to trap the head of the filter to enable different types of nozzles from different manufacturers to be used in the sprinkler.

  • Patent number: 4637548
Abstract: An improved locking assembly is provided for releasably locking a valve unit incorporated into a sprinkler housing or the like, wherein the locking assembly prevents the valve unit from being driven from the housing as a projectile by water under pressure at the upstream side of the valve unit. The valve unit includes a mounting ring normally held seated upon a shoulder seat within the base of the sprikler housing by the locking assembly including a stacked pair of snap rings installed into an enlarged housing lock groove thereby positioning a movable valve member in association with a valve seat to control water flow into the sprinkler housing. The valve unit is removable from the housing, for example, for maintenance purposes by removing the two snap rings one at a time.

  • Patent number: 4316579
Abstract: For use with a pop-up sprinkler of the full or part circle type, a multi-purpose seal is provided between the movable stem of the pop-up sprinkler and a stationary mounting base which is fixed with respect to the sprinkler housing. The seal is preferably a unitary molded article and includes a grit wiper at its upper end, a central bearing to slidingly guide the stem within the housing, a sliding water-activated seal, and an annular static seal for providing a watertight seal between the movable stem and stationary housing during normal operation of the sprinkler.

  • Patent number: 4226259
Abstract: For use with a remotely actuated fluid supply valve, an internally balanced pressure regulating module is provided for regulating the pressure downstream of the valve by modulating the rate at which fluid is bled from a closure chamber of the valve in response to downstream pressure. The module includes a flow restricting member arranged at the open end of a cylinder and having a first surface facing the open end of the cylinder and a second surface facing outwardly of the cylinder and exposed to downstream pressure. The flow restricting member is secured to a piston in the cylinder which is resiliently biased toward the open end of the cylinder, and the downstream pressure acting on the second surface urges the first surface against the force of the biasing means, into a flow restricting relationship with the open end of the cylinder.
