  • Patent number: 8069133
Abstract: A method, computer program product, and system are provided for decomposing human behavior into quantifiable layers of perception. The method for decomposing human behavior into quantifiable layers of perception may be referred to as “DAP-E,” which is an acronym representative of four main phases of the method. Theses phases include the following: decompose; aggregate; propagate; and, evaluate. For example, an embodiment of the method may include aggregating one or more outputs from one or more behavioral models to represent a statistically significant conclusion and propagating the conclusion across a social network to allow opinions of a first entity within the social network to influence a conclusion of a second entity. A token passing behavior algorithm may be used to weigh an opinion of an entity receiving a token when propagating the conclusion across the social network.

  • Publication number: 20090268759
Abstract: There is provided a system and method for detecting and correcting a false embedded header. More specifically, in one embodiment, there is provided a method, comprising locating an ancillary data packet in a data stream based on a first sequence of data indicative of the ancillary data packet, determining if the ancillary data packet contains a second sequence of data indicative of sync information, and altering the second sequence of data to not indicate sync information if the ancillary data packet does contain the second sequence of data.

  • Publication number: 20070153087
Abstract: An arrangement for maintaining even tube burn-in. The arrangement identifies active and inactive display regions on a display unit when video content is displayed on the display unit. When inactive display regions are identified the arrangement monitors the duration that the active display regions remain active. After the active display regions become inactive and a predetermined time period has passed the arrangement displays a corrective image on the identified inactive regions. The predetermined time period may be set by a user or based on the user's viewing habits.

  • Publication number: 20060233244
Abstract: There is provided a method for detecting signal conditions for Motion Picture Experts Group (MPEG) streams. Alternate-mode flags and valid frames within the MPEG streams are detected within a pre-defined search window. An indication that a valid signal is detected is output, when an alternate-mode flag and at least one valid frame are both detected within a same one of the predefined search window.

  • Publication number: 20060215699
Abstract: In a receiver coupled to a recording device that includes a digital storage medium, there is provided a method for providing trick mode operations for sub-channels of multiplexed streams stored on the digital storage medium. A trick mode command specifically directed to a particular sub-channel of a multiplexed stream is sent to the recording device. Frame data corresponding to the particular sub-channel is received from the recording device. Trick mode data for the particular sub-channel is extracted from the frame data.

  • Publication number: 20060197871
Abstract: The disclosed embodiments relate to a system and method for modifying video signals. The system may comprise at least one decoder that decodes a video signal that comprises embedded picture setting data, and a video processor that is adapted to detect whether the system is operating in an on-screen display (“OSD”) mode, apply the embedded picture setting data if the system is not in the OSD mode, and withhold the embedded picture setting data if the system is in the OSD mode. The method may comprise the acts of decoding a video signal that comprises embedded picture setting data, detecting whether a system is operating in the OSD mode, applying the embedded picture setting data if the system is not in the OSD mode, and withholding the embedded picture setting data if the system is in the OSD mode.

  • Publication number: 20060171659
Abstract: A system and a method for modifying a stream of multimedia content to implement trick mode playback functions in MPEG receivers that do not follow general MPEG trick mode implementation recommendations. The system can include a processor that sets a discontinuity indicator in an adaptation field associated with a video frame. A substitute program clock reference (PCR) value also can be set in the adaptation field. The substitute PCR value can be set to a value approximately equal to a presentation time stamp (PTS) of the video frame with which the adaptation field is associated. The processor also can insert an adaptation field with at least one video frame with which an adaptation field was not already associated. The processor also can remove at least one video frame from the stream of multimedia content. Adaptation fields associated with the removed video frame also can be removed.

  • Publication number: 20050162446
Abstract: There is provided an On-Screen graphics Display (OSD) for displaying multiple display formats. The OSD includes a graphics plane, having a pre-specified number of lines, for displaying graphics in different subsets of the pre-specified number of lines. One subset is defined as a rendered area that is displayed for a display format associated with a video signal, and a second area, defined as a contingently rendered area, is rendered responsively to the display format.
