  • Publication number: 20200348006
Abstract: An apparatus can include a lens that can shape light emerging from a light emitting diode (LED). The emergent light from the LED can be substantially centered around an LED axis. An incident surface of the lens can be positioned to face the LED. The incident surface can include a concave portion. The concave portion can be substantially smooth, so as not to substantially scatter light that strikes the concave portion. The concave portion can be substantially centered around a concave portion axis that is non-coaxial with the LED axis. The incident surface can include a scattering portion, positioned away from the concave portion, which can be textured so as to scatter light that strikes the scattering portion. An exiting surface of the lens can optionally include a generally planar portion that at least partially surrounds a substantially smooth convex portion.

  • Publication number: 20200333517
Abstract: An infrared illumination and detection system can include an infrared light source that can emit infrared light having a first wavelength. A visible light source positioned adjacent the infrared light source can emit visible light that overlaps the emitted infrared light. An infrared detector assembly, positioned adjacent the infrared light source and the visible light source, can include a wavelength-sensitive filter that can block wavelengths away from the first wavelength. The infrared detector assembly can include a sensor that can sense light at the first wavelength. The emitted infrared light can appear red when viewed by the human eye in the absence of the emitted visible light. The emitted visible light can optionally be sufficiently bright so as to substantially eliminate viewed redness when the infrared light and the visible light are viewed, together, by the human eye. Alternatives to reduce or eliminate the perceived redness are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20200154027
Abstract: A method includes capturing a first image of a scene, detecting a face in a section of the scene from the first image, and activating an infrared (IR) light source to selectively illuminate the section of the scene with IR light. The IR light source includes an array of IR light emitting diodes (LEDs). The method includes capturing a second image of the scene under selective IR lighting from the IR light source, detecting the face in the second image, and identifying a person based on the face in the second image.

  • Patent number: 10511139
Abstract: Method and apparatuses are described herein for providing laser safety in semiconductor laser modules. For example, a semiconductor laser module may comprise a semiconductor laser and an optical element. The optical element that is operatively coupled with the semiconductor laser may disperse the laser light emitted from the semiconductor laser. The optical element may be coated with a transparent conductive material that serves as an interlock on the semiconductor laser. The transparent conductive material may be placed in the shape of a trace on the optical element where the trace is electrically in series with the semiconductor laser. On a condition that the trace is damaged, the laser light emitted from the semiconductor laser may be interrupted.

  • Publication number: 20190319019
Abstract: The invention describes a light emitting diode array module (30) comprising a plurality of light emitting diode structures (10a, 10b), wherein the light emitting diode structures (10a, 10b) are arranged such that there is an optical cross talk between the light emitting diode structures (10a, 10b) during operation of the light emitting diode array module (30), wherein at least a first light emitting diode structure (10a) of the plurality of light emitting diode structures (10a, 10b) is characterized by a first color, and wherein at least a second light emitting diode structure (10b) of the plurality of light emitting diode structures (10a, 10b) is characterized by a second color different than the first color, wherein the first color, the second color and the optical cross talk between the light emitting diodes are arranged to provide a predefined light distribution in a reference plane (40) perpendicular to an optical axis (50) of the light emitting diode array module (30).

  • Publication number: 20170085768
Abstract: An image capturing system (300), a kit for an image capturing system, a mobile phone, a use of an image capturing system and a method of configured a color matched light source are provided. The image capturing system obtains captured images having a substantially equal color reproduction in a portion illuminated by ambient light (L1) and a portion illuminated by a color matched light source (305). The image capturing system comprises an image capturing sensor (310), a controller (340) and the color matched light source. The color matched light source (305) comprises a first light source (320) and a second light source (330. The light emission spectra of the first and second light source are selected such that, in a color space of the image capturing sensor, a line between their color points is for a large part close to the locus line, while the first or second light source are at a distance from the locus line.
