  • Patent number: 8081353
Abstract: A method for providing a visible reference marker on a scanning unit for orienting an item to be scanned or copied includes the steps of emitting a light from a light source, guiding the light to a scanning unit having a contact glass scanning surface, and redirecting the light to define an illuminated reference marker substantially adjacent to the contact glass. A reference marker assembly for accomplishing that method is provided, including a light source, a waveguide for guiding light emitted from the light source to a scanning unit having a contact glass, and a redirector for redirecting the light to define an illuminated reference marker adjacent to the contact glass, for orienting an item to be copied or scanned. The light source may be a light emitting diode, and the redirector may be a light diffuser for redirecting the collected light to define an illuminated reference marker adjacent to the contact glass.

  • Patent number: 7894746
Abstract: An electrophotographic device is provided for transferring a copy of an image from at least one first media sheet to at least one second media sheet. The device has a height, a width, and a depth defining a device external dimension, and also a width and depth defining a horizontal footprint of the device. The device includes a body adapted to receive therein at least one interchangeable media output module, which module when placed at a predetermined operating position is integrated into the path of travel of a media sheet passing through the device. A variety of interchangeable media output modules may be provided, including without limitation a multi-bin mailbox module, an automated media fastener module, an offset media stacker module, and combinations thereof. Advantageously, inclusion of one or more of the interchangeable media output modules does not alter the electrophotographic device external dimension and/or footprint.

  • Publication number: 20090153814
Abstract: A scan head assembly for use in an imaging device for scanning media that uses fluid particles from the atmosphere for cooling an optical system, cleaning existing contamination particles in the scan head assembly and preventing contamination particles from accruing in the scan head assembly. The scan head assembly is enclosed in a chamber housing having an inlet in fluid communication with the scan head assembly and atmosphere. The scan head assembly has an optical system and a cooling mechanism located adjacent to the inlet. During use, the cooling mechanism directs fluid particles from the atmosphere through the inlet across the scan head assembly to provide cooling and cleaning to the scan head assembly, including the optical system. A negative pressure system is created within the scan head assembly to prevent contamination particles from accruing in the optical system.
