  • Patent number: 12298357
Abstract: A phase to ground fault apparent (PGFA) admittance system and method with phase/ground boundaries for detecting electrical power line faults. The PGFA admittance method with phase/ground boundaries is based on measuring the A, B and C phase admittance magnitudes for faulted and non-faulted phases, resulting in greater than zero and near zero, respectively, and using the phase/ground boundaries to distinguish between the LL and LLG electrical faults. The PGFA admittance method with phase/ground boundaries is based on a pre-setting of values by using the zero, positive and negative sequences of power line sections, to determine phase and ground boundaries. The PGFA admittance algorithm with phase/ground boundaries was built with MATLAB/Simulink software and tested and evaluated with a confusion matrix. The measured and predicted values matched in more than 90% of the tests, and the PGFA admittance method presented an accuracy of 94.3% and a precision of 100%.

  • Publication number: 20090193425
Abstract: A method and system of managing resource lease duration for on-demand computing is provided. The system can include one or more resources having a metric capturing tool; and a provisioning manager in communication with the one or more resources. The provisioning manager can receive a request for at least one resource from the requester. The provisioning manager can provision the at least one resource from the one or more resources. The metric capturing tool can communicate one or more metrics associated with performance of the at least one resource to the provisioning manager. The provisioning manager can determine a lease modifier based at least in part on the one or more metrics. The provisioning manager can adjust a lease duration for the at least one resource based at least in part on the lease modifier.

  • Patent number: 5833466
Abstract: A device and method for assisting people in changing their behaviour and in particular assisting people to stop performing an acquired behavioural response such as using tobacco products, using alcohol, or over-eating is disclosed. The device and method interrupt a user's acquired behavioural response to stimuli before a decision regarding a course of action is made. A set of symbols representing alternative responses to the acquired behavioural responses is then displayed to the user to encourage the user to perform an alternative response. The user acknowledges whether the acquired behavioural response was performed or whether one of the alternative behavioural responses was performed. The device records the number of times either response was performed for later analysis and record keeping.

  • Patent number: 5813026
Abstract: A portable electronic device is disclosed. The device has a first program stored in memory contained within the device and a second program stored on transposable memory which is releasably connectable to the device. The transposable memory comprises a plug-in module having a EEPROM. The second program stored on the transposable memory comprises a series of groups of instructions which are downloaded, as required, by the device and executed in order. The specific groups to be downloaded are determined by a jump table which accesses different groups of instructions in response to input signals. The instructions to be downloaded are identified by variable addresses in the jump table, and, the variable addresses are updated by means of the first program and the second program.
