  • Publication number: 20140362724
Abstract: A communication system provides selective access to target wireless communication devices. A naming server system receives naming system registration messages from target wireless communication devices and address requests from user devices. The naming server system determines if the current time is within the access schedule for the target wireless communication device. If the current time is within the access schedule for the target wireless communication device, then the naming server system returns the IP address for the target wireless communication device. If the current time is not within the access schedule for the target wireless communication device, then the naming server system will respond with a timeframe when the target wireless communication device will be available for access.

  • Patent number: 8775583
Abstract: Methods are provided for assigning a static IPv6 address to a mobile device by accessing a database to determine whether a static IPv6 address is stored in the database for that mobile device. A mobile device communicates a request for a static IPv6 address, and it is then determined that a static IPv6 address is defined in a customer-profile database in association with the mobile device. The network portion and the host portion of the static IPv6 address are sent to the mobile device so that the mobile device is able to communicate by way of a communications network.

  • Patent number: 8599776
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for transferring an active voice call to a packet communication network. In a particular embodiment, a method provides establishing a voice call having an initial signaling channel and an initial voice channel between a first wireless device and a second wireless device over a first and second wireless access system. The method further includes establishing a new signaling channel for the voice call between the first wireless device and a separate packet network. Also, the method provides extending the new signaling channel for the voice call from the separate packet network to the second wireless access system over the first wireless access system. Furthermore, the method includes using the new signaling channel to establish a new voice channel for the voice call over the separate packet network, wherein the first wireless access system remains in the new signaling channel.

  • Patent number: 8547912
Abstract: A method of assigning a single packet address to a wireless communication device in a communication system comprising a first wireless network and a second wireless network comprises, in the wireless communication device, transferring a first network service request to a router in the first wireless network, wherein the first network service request includes a first network user identifier; in the router, transferring an authorization request to an authorization system, wherein the authorization request includes the first network user identifier; in the authorization system, determining whether the wireless communication device associated with the first network user identifier comprises dual-mode functionality, and determining whether a session for the second wireless network exists based on the first network user identifier; and in the router, transferring a first network service response to the wireless communication device, wherein the first network service response includes a packet address for the second

  • Patent number: 8537843
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for providing initial filter criteria with a time limit for providing an application service. In a particular embodiment, a method includes receiving a service request for an application into an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS). The method further provides, in the IMS, processing the service request to generate initial filter criteria that includes a first logic component that has a first time limit to control provision of the application to the user and transferring the initial filter criteria from the IMS and receiving the initial filter criteria into an application server. Additionally, the method includes, in the application server, before the first time limit expires, providing the application to the user based on the initial filter criteria with the first logic component, and after the first time limit expires, providing the application to the user based on the initial filter criteria without the first logic component.

  • Patent number: 8520604
Abstract: A media service controller controls how one or more base stations transmit media content from one or more media servers to mobile stations. The media service controller may control whether a mobile station receives media content via a unicast or a multicast connection, e.g., based on a predefined schedule and/or on whether other mobile stations served by the same base station are receiving the same media content. The media service controller may provide a content discovery service through which a first media server may determine whether other media servers are providing the same media content. The media service controller may facilitate changing a source of media content received by a mobile station, e.g., by changing the source from a first media server to a second media server when the mobile station moves from an area associated with the first media server to an area associated with the second media server.

  • Patent number: 8280342
Abstract: A visited access gateway provides an emergency communication service to a visiting mobile unit. The visiting mobile unit transfers a user registration to a home communication network, and the home communication network transfers a home internet protocol address to the visiting mobile unit. Upon receiving an emergency call request having the home internet protocol address from the visiting mobile unit, the access gateway transfers the emergency call request having the home internet protocol address over a signaling tunnel from the visiting mobile unit to a visited call processing system, receives routing instructions from the visited call processing system, and exchanges emergency communications having the home internet protocol address over a bearer tunnel between the visiting mobile unit and a visited emergency service node.

  • Patent number: 7929506
Abstract: A mobile node using Mobile IP is served by a network access server (NAS), wherein the NAS has allocated a care-of address for the mobile node and a home agent has a mobility binding that associates the care-of address with the mobile node's home address. When the mobile node's care-of address is no longer valid, an intermediary server receives a notification messages from a first network element (e.g., the NAS or home agent) and sends a resource management message to a second network element (e.g., the home agent or NAS). In response to the resource management message, the second network element clears at least one resource associated with the mobile node. For example, the NAS may de-allocate the care-of address and the home agent may clear the mobility binding.

  • Patent number: 7551915
Abstract: A mobile node that is in communication with a correspondent node via a home agent initiates a process for establishing a route optimized mode of communication between the mobile node and the correspondent node. The mobile node sends a first initiating message to the home agent for delivery to the correspondent node and sends a second initiating message directly to the correspondent node. The mobile node secures the first initiating message by including an initiating-message authentication code that can be validated by the home agent or by an authentication server. The correspondent node responds by sending a first responsive message to the home agent for delivery to the mobile node and by sending a second responsive message directly to the mobile node. The home agent secures the first responsive message by adding a responsive-message authentication code that can be validated by the mobile node.
