Publication number: 20220054225Abstract: The present invention relates to a hand operated dental instrument that allows a user to manually operate tool bits that are ordinarily operated by a power operated tool or a unitary hand-held device. The invention includes a handle that carries a shaft; a bore-hole extending through at least a portion of the shaft for receiving a portion of a tool bit; and a spline receiving slot defined in the shaft. The invention also includes a tool bit having a flange that may carry a spline extending along a portion of a longitudinal axis of the tool bit so that when the tool bit is placed in the bore-hole, the spline receiving slot receives the spline so that when the shaft is rotated, the tool bit rotates.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 4, 2021Publication date: February 24, 2022Applicant: Charles Buist, DMD, PAInventor: Charles Buist, SR.

Patent number: 11191622Abstract: A method of placing a dental implant without the use of traditional tools such as a mallet or an electric drill to create the opening in the patient's jaw bone that will receive the dental implant is provided. This method may include the steps of creating an implant opening, incising the opening, refining the opening and inserting the dental implant in the opening. A piercing instrument may be used to create the opening, a first cutting tool may be used to incise the opening, a second cutting tool may be used to refine the opening and a hand operated driver may be used to insert the dental implant into the opening. In at least one embodiment, only a hand force is applied to the instruments used to carry out the method without the use additional instruments to create or augment the force being applied to the instruments being used.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 2018Date of Patent: December 7, 2021Inventor: Charles Buist, Sr.

Patent number: 10772705Abstract: The present invention relates to a hand operated dental instrument that allows a user to manually operate tool bits that are ordinarily operated by a power operated tool. Then invention includes a handle that carries a shaft; a bore-hole extending through at least a portion of the shaft for receiving a tool bit; an elevated stop disposed in the bore-hole for engaging at least a portion of a tool bit that is inserted into the bore-hole; a securing ring receiving slot disposed in the shaft and is in fluid communication with the bore-hole; and a securing ring that when placed in the securing ring receiving slot presses at least a portion of the tool bit towards the elevated stop so that when the shaft is rotated, the tool bit rotates.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 2018Date of Patent: September 15, 2020Assignee: Charles Buist, DMD, PAInventor: Charles Buist, Sr.

Patent number: 10772709Abstract: The present invention relates to a dental implant having at least one but preferably a plurality of split fins that are vertically spaced along the vertical axis of the body portion of the implant. These split fins hold the body portion of a dental implant stationary within the patient's jaw by engaging the patient's jawbone and promoting osseointegration—the growth bone around and on the surface of the implant. Each split fin has a first end that is vertically spaced from a second end along the implant body's vertical axis such that the split fin extends from the first end and around the body's circumference along an inclined plane until it terminates at the second end so that the split fin creates a single spiral that extends around the entire circumference of the body portion of the implant.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 2018Date of Patent: September 15, 2020Assignee: Charles Buist, DMD, PAInventor: Charles Buist, Sr.

Patent number: 10758319Abstract: The present invention relates to a surgical dental tool for assisting with the implantation of a dental implant. The tool is designed to create an opening in a patient's jaw into which the dental implant will be inserted. In one embodiment, the tool includes a handle, a blade carrier, a pick and a blade stabilizing channel formed in at least a portion of the blade carrier and extends through at least a portion of the pick. The blade stabilizing channel receives and stabilizes a cutting blade. The blade carrier may include an adjustable clamping plate for removably securing the cutting blade in the blade stabilizing channel. The pick may include a sheath that receives and protects the tip of the cutting blade from breakage when the blade is in the blade stabilizing channel and is being used to cut a dental implant opening.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 2018Date of Patent: September 1, 2020Assignee: Charles Buist, DMD, PAInventor: Charles Buist, Sr.

Patent number: 10631895Abstract: An improved cutting tool is provided for cutting openings in a patient's jaw so that a dental implant may be inserted therein. The cutting tool includes a tapered pick portion that has a generally flat surface and a radiused surface. The pick portion further includes a cutting blade that extends along at least a portion of the generally flat surface of the pick portion so that the cutting blade is generally opposite from the radiused surface. When the pick portion is inserted into the patient's jaw and rotated, the radiused surface engages a first section of the patient's bone to create at least one micro fracture in the bone while the cutting blade engages a second section of the bone and removes a portion of the bone in the second section.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2018Date of Patent: April 28, 2020Assignee: Charles Buist, DMD, PAInventor: Charles Buist, Sr.
