  • Patent number: 4379443
Abstract: An air and fuel mixture heater for disposition between the usual opposing and coaction mounting flange portions of a combustion engine intake manifold and associated carburetor base mounting flange, and which heater basic structure and operation may also be incorporated in the inlet portion of the associated intake manifold, if desired, when carburetor air cleaner-to-hood clearance is minimal. The heater defines a thin hollow housing including a pair of closely spaced, parallel and registered opposite top and bottom side walls having at least generally registered air and fuel mixture openings formed therethrough. The housing also includes peripheral wall portions extending between corresponding peripheral edge portions of the housing side walls and baffle plate is mounted within the housing spaced intermediate and generally paralleling the housing side walls.

  • Patent number: 4329963
Abstract: A liquid vaporizing attachment is provided for a combustion engine including an air and fuel charge forming device defining an air and fuel passage extending therethrough, an induction passage inlet end for receiving an air and fuel charge from the charge forming device and an engine exhaust system. The attachment defines an intermediate passage extending therethrough including inlet and outlet ends communicated with the outlet end of the air and fuel passage and the induction passage inlet end, respectively. The intermediate passage includes heating structure operatively associated therewith for heating fluid flowing therethrough and liquid vapor injection structure for injecting a heated liquid vapor into the intermediate passage. The intermediate passage includes a horizontal major length portion thereof and upwardly and downwardly opening inlet and outlet end portions, respectively, defining the inlet and outlet ends of the intermediate passage.

  • Patent number: 3992877
Abstract: A closed pressure housing is provided having an internal partition dividing the interior of the housing into first and second chambers. The first chamber includes a pressurized gas inlet and a liquid fuel reservoir is disposed within and opens into the interior of the first chamber. Fuel supply means is provided for supplying liquid fuel under pressure to the fuel reservoir and structure is operatively associated with the fuel reservoir for heating the latter and vaporizing the liquid fuel therein. A combustion gas transfer passage communicates the first and second chambers and is controlled by a check valve and ignition means is provided within the first chamber for igniting a combustible mixture of pressurized gas and vaporized fuel within the first chamber. Finally, the second chamber includes a combustion gas outlet and the effective flow rate of the combustion gas outlet is less than the effective flow rate of the gas pressure transfer passage.
