    Abstract: A multi-unit articulated railway freight car defining a container well in each of the several units, with container support members attached to the side sills of each unit to support standard intermodal cargo containers at a location low enough to permit a second tier of containers to be stacked atop a bottom tier without exceeding the maximum height restrictions of most main railroad lines, although ample clearance is preserved beneath the bottom of the car when fully loaded. Each container support member is constructed of thick plate steel of high strength, formed cold to include residual internal stresses in order to resist failure when subjected to the loads imposed by supporting loaded containers carried in the container well. The side sill structures are of box tube and formed sheet construction of small enough width to permit carriage of newer, larger, sizes of intermodal cargo containers without the car or containers protruding outside the clearance available along most railroad lines.

    Abstract: Improvements in the body of a lightweight railway car are disclosed with one improved portion being a side sill formed from a metal plate having a plurality of short tubes welded thereto and projecting outwardly therefrom. A channel is welded to the plate and has a plurality of holes formed therein which are aligned with the tubes, with the metal removed to form the holes being substantially equal in weight to that of the tubes. The tubes are welded to the channel near the periphery of the holes. The side sills cooperate with body bolsters and container-engaging feet for handling a double tier of a variety of different sizes of containers.

    Abstract: A jogging apparatus comprising a tubular frame, an elastomeric member bonded to the frame and a mat bonded to the elastomeric member when the elastomeric member is preloaded radially inwardly so that when the load on the elastomeric member is released, the mat is tightly stretched on the frame to provide the jogging surface. Circumferentially spaced legs are pivoted to the inner surface of the frame and which, in operative position, have portions extending radially outwardly and downwardly and which are foldable inwardly within the plane of the jogging apparatus. The legs are mounted by a construction which tends to urge the legs yieldingly outwardly when they are extended and tends to urge the legs yieldingly inwardly when they are folded inwardly.

    Abstract: A control system for an intravenous feed tube is provided that functions by sensing weight changes with respect to time, i.e., dw/dt, of an intravenous solution supplied to a patient, the solution being maintained as a free hanging load. The weight changes are detected by strain gauge sensors, and then applied as signals to a microprocessor that is programmed to produce suitable control responses. These responses are fed to a motor which applies a constrictive force to the intravenous tube and maintains the solution flow at the desired rate.
