  • Patent number: 5442703
Abstract: A resource allocator (108) receives, from a first communication unit, a request to establish secure communications with at least a second communication unit. A key identifier is retrieved by the resource allocator and transmitted to at least the second communication unit. Based upon the transmitted key identifier, the second communication unit retrieves an identified encryption key and, at least when the identified encryption key is corrupt, transmits a corrupt key indication to the resource allocator. In response, the resource allocator can assign a default key identifier for use in the secure communication. In this manner, missed communications due to encryption key failures are reduced.

  • Patent number: 5420577
Abstract: In a secure trunked communication system that includes a central controller, communication between a distribution panel and a limited number of console interface units may be achieved in the following manner. At power up or upon a reset condition, the distribution panel transmits a status check message to each console interface unit in the system. Console interface units that are active respond by transmitting an acknowledgement. Upon receiving the acknowledgement, the distribution panel transmits the addresses of the active console interface units to the central controller. When the distribution panel receives secure information from the central controller, it interprets the information to identify a target console interface unit and transmits the received secure information to the target console interface unit.

  • Patent number: 5402491
Abstract: In a secure trunking communication system, limited secure service is provided during periods of limited service or failsoft operations using the following method. When the limited service or failsoft condition is detected, a limited secure service message or a failsoft service message, respectively, is transmitted to those system components utilizing encryption keys, including console interface units (CIU) (106-107) and communication units (111-113). Upon reception of the limited secure service message, the communication units load at least one limited service key. Simultaneously, the console interface units also load the at least one limited service key. Upon reception of the failsoft service message, the console interface units load at least one failsoft key. Simultaneously, the communication units also load the at least one failsoft key. The communication units and the CIUs use the limited service keys or the failsoft keys until normal operation is restored.

  • Patent number: 4846378
Abstract: A pouring nozzle for a soft drink, milk or liquor bottle, carton, or the like, which has a feature in that when the container is in an upright position, the nozzle automatically closes to seal off the container. The nozzle includes an internal ball which floats on liquid trapped in the nozzle to close and seal the nozzle when the container is upright. However, the ball is forced into a cavity in the nozzle when the container is tilted over to permit liquid to flow freely from the container through the nozzle.
