  • Patent number: 5601750
Abstract: An enzymatic bleach composition is provided comprising an enzymatic hydrogen peroxide-generating system and a bleach catalyst which is a coordination complex comprising manganese (Mn) and/or iron (Fe) ions, and preferably comprising a ligand L which is a macrocyclic organic compound of formula (I): ##STR1## wherein t is an integer form 2 to 3; s is an integer from 3 to 4, u is zero or one; each R.sup.1, R.sup.2 and R.sup.3 are independently selected from H, alkyl, aryl, substituted alkyl, and substituted aryl.

  • Patent number: 5474762
Abstract: A sunscreen composition for application to human skin comprises an ultraviolet absorber which is introduced as an anion into a layered double hydroxide of the general formula[N.sub.m N.sub.n (OH).sub.2(m+n) ].sup.y+ X.sup.x-.sub.y/x .multidot.zH.sub.2 Owhere M is a divalent metal or lithium, N is a trivalent metal and X denotes anions present as an interlayer between layers of metal atoms joined through the OH groups.Such layered double hydroxides are, for this invention, suspended in a cosmetically acceptable vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5175333
Abstract: A process is reported for preparation of quaternary ammonium type carbonate esters which are useful as bleach precursors in detergent compositions. The process involves transesterification of low molecular weight carbonates, e.g. diphenyl carbonate, with amino functionalized alcohols, e.g. dialkylaminoalkanol. Preferably the reaction involves transesterification of diphenylcarbonate with the hydroxyl compound followed by removal of phenol. Subsequent thereto the transesterified ester is quaternized with an alkylating agent. Optionally there may be a sulfonation of phenol ester subsequent to the quaternization reaction.

  • Patent number: 5143641
Abstract: A bleaching composition in concentrated form is provided that includes a peroxygen compound and an organic bleach precursor. The precursor is selected from esters and carbonates having a leaving group whose conjugate acid has a pKa of greater than 13. Particularly preferred are quaternary ammonium functionalized compounds. Absent preconcentration of the components, poor bleaching would result. Concentrated compositions may be achieved through use of encapsulation or by way of a sachet.

  • Patent number: 4988451
Abstract: A particulate additive is reported which is an intimately blended mixture of a precursor, a stabilizing agent and a dispersing agent. The precursor is a quaternized ammonium or phosphonium substituted carbonic acid ester. A C.sub.4 or higher organic acid having at least one carboxylic group, such a lauric acid, or a solid inorganic acid, such as potassium bisulfate, is required as the stabilizing agent. Various alkoxylated fatty alcohols, fatty acids or alkylated phenols are utilized as the dispersing agent. These particulate additives are employed as adjuncts in bleaching-detergent compositions.
