  • Patent number: 7945312
Abstract: A multisensor probe for continuous real-time tissue identification. The multisensor probe includes a tissue penetrating needle, a plurality of sensors useful in characterizing tissue and a position sensor to measure the depth of the needle into the tissue being diagnosed. The sensors include but are not limited to an optical scattering and absorption spectroscopy sensor, an optical coherence domain reflectometry sensor, an electrical impedance sensor, a temperature sensor, a pO2 sensor, a chemical sensor and other sensors useful in identifying tissue. The sensors may take the form of a plurality of optical fibers extending through said needle. A retractable sheath may be disposed around the distal section of the needle to protect the needle when not in use. The sheath retracts when the probe is inserted into tissue and the position of the sheath relative to the needle may be measured to determine the needle's depth. Systems and methods for tissue identification are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20090269135
Abstract: A method of forming a concrete block embedded with coquina stone comprising the steps of positioning a layer of sand on the bottom surface of a concrete block form, then positioning a layer of coquina stone above the layer of sand positioned on the bottom surface, then pouring concrete over the layer of sand and the layer of coquina stone, thereafter allowing the concrete to harden to form a concrete block which is then removed from the concrete block form.

  • Publication number: 20070119827
Abstract: A plasma jet system includes a housing with a single opening. A plasma generator is coupled to ionize a fluid in the housing. An electromagnetic accelerator is coupled to generate an electric field that accelerates ionized fluid in the housing toward the opening. A controller can modulate the frequency of the electric field to cause the ionized fluid to form a plasma vortex flow through the opening. A magnetic field is applied normal to the direction of the plasma vortex flow to mitigate the momentum of the electrons. The electrons slowed by the magnetic field can be collected and conducted to a location where they are re-inserted into the plasma vortex flow to maintain charge neutrality.

  • Patent number: 7224308
Abstract: A surveillance system is provided for surveillance of objects within a secure area. A surveillance sensor transmits surveillance signals to all objects within the secure area, the reflections of which are received back by the surveillance sensor to determine the locations of objects, and communicates the determined locations to a pressing facility. Objects authorized to be in the secure area are equipped with an Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) unit that includes a GPS receiver and a data communication transmitter. In response to predetermined conditions, the IFF units broadcast their position and identification to the processing facility for correlation with locations defined by the reflection signals.

  • Publication number: 20070040503
Abstract: The microstructure non-thermal visible light source may emit visible light. A microstructure element may be filled with a gas and may be disposed in a light transparent dielectric binder positioned between two spaced apart electrical conductors. An electrical source may be in electrical communication with the electrical conductors for the electrical source to transmit a signal to the electrical conductors to excite the gas to cause an electron in a plurality of gas molecules to transition to higher energy states. The higher energy states may be metastable and the higher energy states may decay with the emission of a photon at selected wavelengths.
