Publication number: 20180203976Abstract: Embodiments are directed to systems and methods for pathogen detection using next-generation sequencing (NGS) analysis of a sample. Embodiments may apply alignment algorithms (e.g., SNAP and/or RAPSearch alignment algorithms) to align individual sequence reads from a sample in a next-generation sequencing (NGS) dataset against reference genome entries in a classified reference genome database. Embodiments of the present invention may include classifying, filtering, and displaying results to a clinician that can then quickly and easily obtain the results of the sequencing to identify a pathogen or other genetic material in a sample that is being tested. A negative sample and a corresponding database can be used to remove contaminants from a list of candidate pathogens. Thus, embodiments are directed to a system that is configured to filter the results of a sequencing alignment and classify a sample quickly.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 9, 2018Publication date: July 19, 2018Inventors: Charles Chiu, Samia NACCACHE, Scot FEDERMAN, Doug STRYKE, Steve MILLER, Erik SAMAYOA

Patent number: 7857606Abstract: A variable displacement pump includes a pump body defining first and second pools for introducing fuel/lubricant oil, and internal and external rotary members rotatably mounted on the pump body and cooperatively defining a space such that, during counterclockwise revolution, the fuel/lubricant oil is taken up from the first pool by sweeping of the space over the first pool, and is delivered to the second pool. A control slider is sleeved on the external rotary member, and has an actuated tooth moved by an expansion force in the second pool to counteract the external rotary member so as to reduce the volume of the space, thereby reducing delivery of the fuel/lubricant oil into the second pool. A biasing member is disposed to bias the actuated tooth towards the second pool.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 2008Date of Patent: December 28, 2010Assignee: JI-EE Industry Co., Ltd.Inventors: Charles Chiu, Lon Chen, Jo Chen

Publication number: 20060047490Abstract: The invention relates generally to a method of power supply noise and signal integrity analysis for creating frequency-dependent electrical models particularly related to microelectronic packages. The method discloses creation of equivalent circuits for geometries encountered in a typical chip package, including how to partition the geometry into cells which are less then 1/20 the minimum wavelength (?) in size, and how to handle signal and power supply vias, signal wires, and power planes. The method also instructs how to assign values to each of the inductors, capacitors, resistors, and transmission lines in each equivalent circuit. The method further provides modeling of only those interactions which occur between adjacent cells.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 30, 2004Publication date: March 2, 2006Applicant: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Erik Breiland, Timothy Budell, Charles Chiu, Paul Clouser, Charles Erdelyi, Brian Welch

Publication number: 20050102641Abstract: Disclosed is an improved method of determining mutual inductance of wires in an electronic design. First, the invention selects a pair of wires. Then, the invention adds concentric ring lines to the design. The invention then adds straight line segments representing each wire between points where each corresponding wire crosses the adjacent ring lines. Each of the straight lines run from a point where a corresponding wire crosses an outer concentric ring line to a point where the corresponding wire crosses an inner concentric ring line. The invention can then very simply calculate the mutual inductance between the straight line segments (not the actual potentially non-linear wires themselves). The mutual inductance of the straight line segments only comprises an approximate mutual inductance of the wires because the actual mutual inductance of the wires may be slightly different if the wires are non-linear.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 12, 2003Publication date: May 12, 2005Applicant: INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATIONInventors: Patrick Buffet, Charles Chiu, Gustina Collins, Craig Lussier

Publication number: 20050040536Abstract: A semiconductor chip package with reduced cross-talk between adjacent signals in a layer of a carrier is disclosed. A first pair of conductors for carrying a first signal is provided in a layer of the carrier. A second pair of conductors for carrying a second signal is provided adjacent to the first pair of conductors in the layer, where the first and second pairs of conductors are configured such that cross-talk between the first and second pairs of conductors is substantially minimized, without increasing the size of the package. The height of the first pair of conductors is shorter than the second pair of conductors. Alternatively, the first and second pairs of conductors are configured so that they evenly affect each other. The chip package thus reduces the cross-talk without compromising the density of the interconnections in the package or resulting in an increase in the size of the package.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 20, 2003Publication date: February 24, 2005Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Patrick Buffet, Charles Chiu, Jon Garlett, Louis Hsu, Brian Schuh
