  • Patent number: 5671789
Abstract: A depth of cut lock mechanism for a plunge-type router having a drive motor enclosed within a motor housing. The motor housing is attached to a base plate by a pair of spatially separated guides. Each guide has a guide sleeve attached to the motor housing and a guide tube attached to the base plate and slidably received in the guide sleeve. The lock mechanism has a lock disc rotatable between a lock position and a release position by a manually activated lever displaces the lock disc toward the unlocked position. The lever is pivotable about an axis parallel a guide tube and is located adjacent to a handle of the router so that the lever can be activated by the user while grasping the router handle.

  • Patent number: 5613813
Abstract: The height adjustment ring assembly is provided for adjusting height of a router motor housing relative to a router body, the router being movable between upright and inverted positions. The housing includes external threads formed thereon. The height adjustment ring assembly comprises a support member secured to the router base, the support having a radially extending flange portion. An annular adjustment ring includes an internal thread for cooperation with the external threads. Means for entrapping the flange portion with respect to the adjustment ring is provided, thereby limiting relative axial movement while allowing free relative rotation of the adjustment ring with respect to the support member for adjustment of the router motor housing regardless of router position.

  • Patent number: 5346342
Abstract: A shaft lock arrangement having a shaft lock slidably mounted in the housing of a power tool. The shaft lock has a keyhole-shaped aperture having a circular portion circumscribing the output shaft of the power tool when the shaft lock is in a RUN position and a rectangular portion, the sides of which straddle flat portions of the output shaft preventing the output shaft from rotating when the shaft lock is in the LOCKED position. The shaft lock further has a run detent resiliently engaged by a toggle of a cut-out switch to hold the shaft lock in the RUN position and a lock detent resiliently engaged by the toggle of the cut-out switch to hold the shaft lock in the LOCKED position. The cut-out switch prevents electrical power from applied to the motor of the power tool when the shaft of the power tool is locked by the shaft lock.

  • Patent number: 4879438
Abstract: A powered tool controlled by an actuating lever is provided with a simplified structure combining lock-off and lock-on functions. A trigger is mounted on the actuating lever and is pivoted about an axis parallel to a pivot axis for the actuating lever. The trigger is displaceable in a direction substantially parallel to the direction of displacement of the actuating lever, reducing the dexterity required of an operator to permit operation of the actuating lever. A hooked lever element extends from the trigger and a blocking device, which may be a post or a ribbed structure, projects from the tool housing. The hooked lever and blocking device cooperate to (1) abut, to prevent actuation of the motor unless the trigger is first operated, and (2) lock the actuating lever in an operated state upon subsequent release of the trigger.
