  • Patent number: 6471680
Abstract: A urine collection bag includes an improvement in the form of an extendable drain tube that is normally retracted and retained in flat coiled condition against the front wall of the bag. The tube is biased into its coiled condition by the elastic memory of the thermoplastic material from which it is formed and, in a preferred embodiment, the flat coil is oval-shaped with its major axis extending generally vertically when the bag is worn. A retention strap attached to the front wall of the bag serves to hold the drain tube in its coiled condition against the bag's front wall.

  • Patent number: 6352526
Abstract: An improved anti-reflux valve is formed as a folded flap of two sheets that are heat sealed along their side edges, folded along their top edges, and free at their lower edges to make a distal opening of the valve. The anti-reflux valve has a channel extending between a point below a valve entry port in one of the sheets down to the distal opening. The ratio of the length of the channel to the width or diameter of the distal opening is 3 to 1, which is an effective ratio to virtually eliminate back flow. The improved anti-reflux valve may be used in a first wall of a urine collection bag to prevent back flow of urine through the valve entry port and into the drainage tube and the bladder.

  • Patent number: 5766136
Abstract: A midstream urine collector is disclosed having an open-ended funnel-shaped body with a cup mounted therein, the cup having an upwardly-directed mouth over which a cover of water-soluble material extends. The cup is substantially smaller than the flow passage through the body so as to permit the downward flow of urine through the passage past the cup. A deflector in the form of a disc-shaped shield is mounted within the funnel-shaped body above the water-soluble cover to protect the cover against rupture that might otherwise occur if the cover were impacted squarely by a forceful stream of urine as a patient commences voiding into the collector.

  • Patent number: 4025776
Abstract: A fiber optic light source is provided with a door for closing the source of light from the receptacle for a fiber optic light bundle. The light source is mounted within a frame having an opening through which light can pass, and a receptacle for the fiber optic light bundle is mounted on the frame and includes at least one opening which is alignable with the opening in the frame. The door is also provided with an opening and is movable between a first position in which the door opening is aligned with the opening in the frame and a second position in which the door opening is not aligned with the opening in the frame and light is blocked from the receptacle.
