  • Patent number: 8583823
Abstract: A pseudo proxy server is provided for a host network when the host network experiences periods of congestion. The host network determines whether an arrival rate of data requests exceeds a predetermined threshold. If so, the host network adds an address of a pseudo proxy server to a list of servers aliased to the host network. Thereafter, data requests are routed to the pseudo proxy server on a round robin basis. The pseudo proxy server may be engaged without first loading information content from the host network on the pseudo proxy server.

  • Patent number: 8195462
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a system, method and computer-readable medium storing instructions for controlling a computing device according to the method. The invention relates to a system, method and computer-readable medium storing instructions for controlling a computing device according to the method. As an example embodiment, the method uses a speech recognition decoder that operates or uses fixed point arithmetic. The exemplary method comprises representing arc costs associated with at least one finite state transducer (FST) in fixed point, representing parameters associated with a hidden Markov model (HMM) in fixed point and processing speech data in the speech recognition decoder using fixed point arithmetic for the fixed point FST arc costs and the fixed point HMM parameters. The method may also include computing at the decoder sentence hypothesis probabilities with fixed point arithmetic as type Q-2e numbers.

  • Publication number: 20120011007
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for mobile payment using dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) signals. A mobile device equipped with at least a speaker and an input is used to connect to a server on the mobile network. Upon authentication of a user of the mobile device, the server generates the payment key, translates the key to DTMF signals, and plays the DTMF signals over the speaker of the mobile device. The user holds the mobile device speaker close to a microphone of a DTMF scanner at a POS terminal. The DTMF scanner includes logic that extracts the payment key from the DTMF signals, and the POS terminal uses the payment key to bill the user. The POS terminal transmits the bill with the payment key to the server on the network. The server ensures that the key is active, and debits an account for the user based on the amount presented in the bill. The key is de-activated after a specified time period or one use, whichever occurs first.

  • Patent number: 8086217
Abstract: The invention provides a system and method for providing a temporary wireless service connection to one or more users within a wireless local area network. In-building services and Internet related services are provided to the users over their respective temporary wireless service connections. Each user is charged for their specific usage amounts which may be based on the number of packets transferred, the number of bytes transferred, the number of distinct transactions and/or the time period each user's temporary wireless service connection was active.

  • Patent number: 7818177
Abstract: A system and method of exchanging medical information between a user and a computer device is disclosed. The computer device can receive user input in one of a plurality of types of user input comprising speech, pen, gesture and a combination of speech, pen and gesture. The method comprises receiving information from the user associated with a medical condition and a bodily location of the medical condition on a patient in one of a plurality of types of user input, presenting in one of a plurality of types of system output an indication of the received medical condition and the bodily location of the medical condition, and presenting to the user an indication that the computer device is ready to receive further information. The invention enables a more flexible multi-modal interactive environment for entering medical information into a computer device. The medical device also generates multi-modal output for presenting a patient's medical condition in an efficient manner.
