Patent number: 5419043Abstract: Two mechanical components are interconnected, for example, the two principal parts of a pedal rod by forming the clevis with a progressive die so that threaded portions are provided on opposite sides of an opening and are formed and shaped strictly by compression without rotation. The work piece is then folded so that the threaded portions are in register and the shaft part of the pedal rod is threaded in place and adjusted to take up the tolerances in the linkage. The two parts are locked together either by crimping, spot welding or by a lock nut, or by joining out of sync thread segments.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 1994Date of Patent: May 30, 1995Inventor: Charles E. Laue

Patent number: 5228818Abstract: A fastener system is providing having a male threaded member and a female threaded member with arrangements for achieving a locking connection between the parts to prevent relative rotation of the parts due to vibration. In an embodiment of the invention, the male member is comprised of a folded over plate with threads formed on an end portion, either the folded end or the free ends, or both, which is engageable into the female member. In another embodiment, the male member is formed of two pieces overlying one another with threads formed on the overlying portions. The thickness, width and number of threads on the male member can be selectively determined to provide the desired torque for rotating the two members relative to one another. The male member can be configured as a linear member, an offset member, as a clevis, or other non linear shapes, which shapes are particularly easy to accomplish by forming the male member of two legs either by folding or as separate pieces.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1991Date of Patent: July 20, 1993Assignee: Charles E. Patent number: 5120020Abstract: An improved valve stem for a valve assembly is provided wherein the valve stem has an external threaded area engaging an internal threaded area of a valve housing for the valve assembly. At least one channel is provided along the threaded area to allow fluid to flow through the threaded area for flushing the threaded area during the manufacturing process of the valve. The channel may be in the form of a flat area along an axial length of the threads, a groove along the length, or a combination of the two.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1991Date of Patent: June 9, 1992Assignee: Charles E. Patent number: 4901426Abstract: A method of fabricating a brake pedal rod comprising the steps of forming an end-piece from a readily machinable material having an aperture forming means for attachment to a brake pedal. A shank piece is formed of materials preferably having greater strength under compressive load than the end-piece, and then a flat end of the shank piece is attached to the end-piece to form a pedal rod, said end having spaced arcuate surfaces in threaded engagement with the end-piece preferably along interference threads capable of resisting unthreading forces of the order of 5-40 inch pounds or more.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 1989Date of Patent: February 20, 1990Inventor: Charles E. Patent number: 4521948Abstract: A segment is cut off a rotating hexagonal bar by opposed cutting tools which form a raised seat for a sealing gasket. The segment defines a hexagonal valve body into which coaxial larger-diameter and smaller-diameter holes are drilled from oppositely facing walls of the six walls of the body, respectively, and a round distribution chamber or port is drilled through the seat centrally thereof and into one side of the body. An internally threaded sleeve is tightly fitted into the smaller-diameter hole and extends toward the chamber to define a back seat. A charging port is drilled through the opposite side of the body and into the sleeve inwardly of its threads. A valve stem with a head at one end having a smaller diameter than the larger-diameter hole is inserted therethrough and is threaded into said sleeve until the head is in the chamber and the opposite end of the stem projects externally of the sleeve for actuation of the head.Type: GrantFiled: February 3, 1983Date of Patent: June 11, 1985Assignee: Hamilton-Pax, Inc.Inventor: Charles E. Patent number: 4371358Abstract: A novel universal joint is made by forming a pair of elongated members, finishing the ends of said members to form bearing surfaces which are hard and smooth, and rigidly interconnecting the members between their ends to form a substantially cruciform spider structure which is subsequently assembled with the bearing surfaces of one member pivotally connected to the jaws of one clevis and with the bearing surfaces of the other member similarly connected to the jaws of another clevis, thereby completing a universal joint.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1980Date of Patent: February 1, 1983Assignee: Hamilton-Pax, Inc.Inventor: Charles E. Patent number: 4354353Abstract: A compression rod assembly with its button end in tight engagement with a valve body of an automotive power brake unit in a socket of said body having a flow hole at the inner end of the socket has a plunger at the opposite end of said assembly in tight engagement with the piston of a master brake fluid cylinder. The button end of said assembly comprises a hollow button with an internal hollow boss and an annular space therearound. A resilient disc with its diameter complementary to the internal diameter of the button and tightly fitted therein projects from the button to engage the valve body around the flow hole, and a noncompressible disc is similarly fitted into the button, bearing against the boss and the inner side of the resilient disc. A rod is press-fitted at one end into the hollow boss bearing against the inner end thereof and the opposite end of the rod has a plunger threaded therein, the plunger having a head in said engagement with the master brake cylinder piston.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 1980Date of Patent: October 19, 1982Assignee: Hamilton-Pax, Inc.Inventor: Charles E. Patent number: 4215714Abstract: A refrigeration valve body is formed by brazing front and back segments having front and back ports respectively, the back segment also having a distribution port and a charging port for the reception of pressurized freon gas to charge a related refrigeration system through the back port and the front and distribution ports. The back segment comprises an opening from its back end to the back port. After brazing of the segments a tool is inserted through said opening to dress a seat around the front port. The tool is then removed, and a valve stem and seat assembly is inserted into the opening. This assembly comprises a sleeve threaded into the opening to compress a sealing gasket against a collar which is in turn compressed against a shoulder of the back body segment in the back port.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1978Date of Patent: August 5, 1980Inventor: Charles E.
