  • Publication number: 20140305349
Abstract: A work surface assembly adapted for mounting within a vehicle includes a support assembly affixed to a telescoping arm assembly, with the telescoping arm assembly including an upper arm configured for telescopic movement relative to a lower arm whereby the support assembly may be raised and lowered. The support assembly includes a first support member that is horizontally oriented and slidingly mounted to the telescoping arm assembly whereby the first support member may be radially extended and retracted relative to the telescoping arm assembly.

  • Publication number: 20090018731
Abstract: A computer control system includes methods and devices for disabling an electronic device, such as a computer, when a mobility status of the vehicle changes. The mobility status may be measured with reference to the vehicle's transmission, parking brake, odometer, speedometer, throttle, engine rpm, or a geographic locating system such as a GPS system. When the mobility status of the vehicle changes to one in which the vehicle is moving, or is more likely to move, the control system disables the electronic device. The control system thus prevents drivers of automobiles and trucks from simultaneously driving while using the electronic device. The system may include one or more override keys and enabling hubs that allow a person to use the device in locations remote from the automobile. The system may also allow the device to be used when it is inside the vehicle but the vehicle's engine has been turned off.

  • Patent number: 7455204
Abstract: A portable office device is adapted for use with a seat in a vehicle to form a desk and preferably has a main body with a plurality of storage compartments, an angled bottom, and a two-piece, hinged work surface member affixed to the main body that is selectively positionable between an open and closed position. When open the work surface member includes an expanded, co-planar work surface suitable for writing or a laptop computer. The portable office device also includes a receptacle adapted to removably receive either a spacer or a filler member/plug, where the spacer and plug enable the portable office device to be selectively positioned within the vehicle providing a greater range of convenient and comfortable use for users of the device. The ability to selectively position the office device in the vehicle passenger compartment, along with a two piece work surface member and an angled bottom, creates a convenient apparatus for both working on and storing work related items in a vehicle.

  • Publication number: 20080083351
Abstract: A portable office device is adapted for use with a seat in a vehicle to form a desk and includes positionable support members or legs that may be folded or pivoted into either an extended or a retracted orientation. The positionable legs enable the portable desk to be selectively positioned within a vehicle at an elevated height for use within the vehicle with the legs in the extended orientation, and with the legs in the retracted orientation, enables the portable desk to be readily transported by hand. The portable desk may further include a pivoting work surface member, various storage compartments, and a slot for receiving a seat belt to secure the portable desk to the vehicle seat.

  • Patent number: 6321912
Abstract: A mountable worksurface comprises a worksurface rotatably attached to a support which is removably mounted to an object. When mounted, and in the open position, the worksurface projects from the cover and provides a rigid surface upon which to work. In a preferred embodiment, the mountable worksurface is in the form of a case for a portable computer having a compartment dimensioned to receive the computer and a cover hingedly connected to the rear of the compartment. The exterior surface of the cover carries a sleeve and a pocket, permitting the cover to be removably mounted on an object by placing the object between the interior of the sleeve and pocket and the exterior of the cover. Adjustment straps extend between the interior surface of the cover and the bottom wall of the compartment and are adjustable to control the distance between the cover and the compartment. Supports positioned in the cover and the bottom wall of the compartment impart rigidity to the case and protect the computer during transport.
