  • Patent number: 6439576
Abstract: A system for the accurate electronic detection and location of missiles, such as darts, is disclosed in which electromagnetic radiation is transmitted through a dart board to signal receiving elements positioned on the side of the dart board opposite the target face and the change in electromagnetic signal is detected when a dart is embedded in one of the dart board target areas. The larger signal receiving elements of the dart board are divided into signal sensing portions which are electrically distinct from adjacent smaller signal receiving elements of the target and also the remainder of the total area of the larger signal receiving element, and the sensing portions are located adjacent the smaller signal receiving elements of the target to improve the accuracy and reliability of the electrical scoring of the darts which become embedded in or close to the smaller signal receiving elements.

  • Patent number: 6155570
Abstract: A system is disclosed for detecting and locating missiles such as darts in a target having a plurality of discrete target areas in which each of the areas has a conductive surface which acts as an electromagnetic signal receiving antenna, and in which a plate is positioned on the back of the target which functions as an electromagnetic signal transmitting antenna. Each of the target areas are monitored for electromagnetic signals and the signals pass through a pin conductor to the monitoring equipment. When a dart is embedded in one of the areas, it also acts as an antenna and, thereby, increases the signal strength of that area to permit detection of the presence and location of the dart. The pin conductors and plate antenna at the back of the dart board substantially improve the discrimination and reliability of the system.

  • Patent number: 5504589
Abstract: A portable unit for transmitting food orders to a central station includes a processor and a storage device coupled to the processor. The storage device contains product information identifying a list of food items. Input keys are coupled to the processor and operate to transmit selector signals to the processor identifying user determined ones of the food items on the list. A facsimile input screen coupled to the processor operates to transmit handwritten modifier information associated with selected ones of the selector signals to the processor. A display controlled by the processor displays product information from the list associated with the respective selector signals and the handwritten modifier information. A wireless communication system is coupled to the processor and transmits a composite food order including a first portion indicative of the selector signals and a second portion indicative of the associated hand-written modifier information to another location.
