  • Patent number: 4038297
Abstract: High molecular weight carboxylic acids are provided. The mixed acid products of this invention typically contain a high percentage of aliphatic straight-chain monocarboxylic acids containing 22 or more carbon atoms. The monocarboxylic acids are obtained by the ozonization of high molecular weight .alpha.-olefins under controlled conditions. Using this ozonization process it is possible to obtain mixed acid products wherein the predominant acids contain 22 to 35 carbon atoms. An additional feature of this invention is the ability to obtain mixed acid products wherein acids having an odd number of carbon atoms are present in significantly larger amounts than acids having an even number of carbon atoms.
