  • Patent number: 4735293
Abstract: A hatchway door for an elevator system which includes a smoke seal. The smoke seal includes a compression seal along the trailing edge of each door panel which engages as the panel reaches the fully closed position, an astragal seal along the leading edge which engages another panel or a return, and sealing arrangements associated with the top and bottom portions of each door panel which seal the associated gaps with a spring loaded cam action which translates horizontal movement of the door panel to vertical movement of each sealing arrangement.

  • Patent number: 4530189
Abstract: A fire resistant, elevator hatchway door entrance for wall openings up to and including 10 feet in height, including first and second side jambs and a head jamb. Each side jamb includes a pair of upstanding, oppositely facing, metallic channel members dimensioned and coupled together to define both a structural box beam and a pocket for receiving the wall which defines the opening. The bight and one leg portion of one channel member define the jamb depth and reveal, respectively, of the side jamb, and the bight of the other channel member receives and shields an asociated J-strut at the wall-entrance interface. The remaining leg portion of the one channel member may cooperate with a member disposed on the trailing edge of the associated door panel to define a flame shield and a mechanical limit for preventing undue separation of the door panel from the side jamb.

  • Patent number: 4436184
Abstract: An elevator system including an elevator car having an electromechanical door restraint mechanism which prevents the forceable opening of an elevator car door by passengers when the elevator car stops outside a predetermined zone adjacent to a floor level, at least to an extent which would enable passenger exit from the car.

  • Patent number: 4356895
Abstract: A hydraulic elevator system which utilizes a single hydraulic jack having a cylinder fixed below an elevator car, and a plunger. The elevator car is supported on the end of the plunger. The hydraulic jack extends upwardly and into the elevator car, reducing the space required below the car by the amount of the penetration of the hydraulic jack. The hydraulic jack is disposed adjacent to the front portion of the hatchway, enabling it to occupy an enclosed, concealed space in the elevator car, between its entranceway and its operational controls.

  • Patent number: 4099599
Abstract: An elevator system including an elevator car, an elevator door, and a door operator for operating the door to open and close an entranceway to the car. The door has integral hanger brackets which are fastened to a hanger plate associated with the door operator. The door may be easily mounted, oriented and aligned in the field by a fastening arrangement and method which includes clamping bolts and jacking bolts. The clamping bolts are adjusted to initially support the weight of the door. Jacking bolts are then coupled between the hanger bracket and hanger plate, and the jacking bolts are actuated to align the door and set the sill gap. The clamping bolts are then tightened to maintain the selected alignment and sill gap. The clamping bolts, jacking bolts and the frictional area contact between the clamped surfaces all co-operate to support the weight of the door, and the clamped surfaces additionally function to add structural stiffness to the door and its support.
