  • Patent number: 5219914
Abstract: A washout resistant roof mastic is disclosed in which an emulsion is applied and contacted with a second material that causes the emulsion to flocculate and set quickly. The emulsion can be applied for example through an applicator that simultaneously applies the emulsion and the flocculant.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 5017632
Abstract: A coating composition is used for coating or overlaying Portland cement concrete or metal. The composition includes a synthetic polymer latex, an amine-functional epoxy curing agent, an epoxy-functional or amine-functional silane, a liquid epoxy resin, and a filler having a fine particle size. The coating composition has superior crack resistance and low cost in comparison with epoxy/amine-type polymer concrete, and excellent strength development, chemical resistance, and rapid cure in thick films in comparison with latex-based cementitious compositions. The coating composition can be mixed from a pair of storage-stable components; a dry mix including the fine particle size filler and the epoxy resin, and optionally larger size aggregate, and a wet mix including the polymer latex, the silane, and the amine curing agent.

  • Patent number: 4588788
Abstract: Curable compositions are prepared from a blend of a polyepoxide, the esterification product of a mixture of carboxylic acids of the formula CH.sub.2 .dbd.CHCO.sub.2 (CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 CO.sub.2).sub.n H (AOnPA herein), where the number average value of n is greater than about 0.1, and a mono- or polyhydric hydroxy-functional compound, and an aliphatic amine curing agent. Use of the esterification product as a reactive diluent for the polyepoxide gives coating and adhesive compositions with reduced toxicity.

  • Patent number: 4336023
Abstract: There is disclosed a process for imparting to cellulose or cellulose-containing textile materials durable press properties by treating cellulose or cellulose-containing textile materials by applying to the textile materials a treating composition of (a) about 1-25% by weight, based on dry weight of the material, of an activated water-soluble bisvinyl compound and (b) about 0.2-25% by weight, based on dry weight of material, of (1) a copolymer having a Tg<20.degree. C., said copolymer being produced from a monomer mixture containing (i) about 0.25-99.5% by weight, based on weight of copolymer, of a quaternary monomer obtained by reacting an epihalohydrin having the formula, ##STR1## with an ammonium salt having the formula CH.sub.2 .dbd.C(R)C(O)O-A-N(CH.sub.3).sub.2 HY, wherein R is H or methyl, A is a (C.sub.2 -C.sub.6) alkylene group having at least two carbons in a chain between adjoined O and N atoms or A is a polyoxyethylene group, (CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 O).sub.n CH.sub.2 CH.sub.

  • Patent number: 4291087
Abstract: Non-woven fabrics of fibers, at least 50% by weight of which are hydrophobic, impregnated with a water-insoluble binder of a polymer derived from a monomer mixture of at least one mono-ethylenically unsaturated monomer selected from the group of acrylic and methacrylic acids and ester and amide and nitrile derivatives thereof, vinyl aromatic compounds, vinyl and vinylidine halides, vinyl esters of saturated carboxylic acids, polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids and esters thereof, alpha-olefins, and diene monomers are disclosed. Optionally, the binder can contain a photosensitive compound of either or both the polymerizable and non-polymerizable types. The polymers are sensitive to radiation, such as electron beam and ultraviolet radiation, and readily cure to a crosslinked condition upon exposure to such radiation.

  • Patent number: 4081383
Abstract: Soiling resistance and soil release of carpets are improved by coating the carpets or carpet yarns prior to carpet manufacture with a polymeric material containing either (A) a blend of a methacrylic acid emulsion copolymer and an epoxy resin or (B) a methacrylic acid emulsion copolymer having epoxy monomer units therein. The copolymer in either case contains 40-75% by weight methacrylic acid and the glass transition temperature of cured coatings of the polymeric material is at least 50.degree. C.
