  • Patent number: 7260951
Abstract: A pressure equalization system staffs a compressor while maintaining the condenser at a high pressure, including a valve and a bleed port. The compressor inlet receives a fluid at a first pressure. The compressor outlet discharges the fluid at a second pressure, and is operable to compress the fluid from the first pressure to the second pressure. The valve, proximate to and in fluid communication with the compressor outlet, is movable to an open position during compressor operation to permit the fluid at the second pressure to flow through the valve and is movable to a closed position when the compressor stops operating to prevent backflow of the fluid at the second pressure through the valve toward the compressor inlet. The bleed port, upstream of the valve and in fluid communication with the compressor inlet, equalizes the pressure of the fluid contained in the compressor when compressor operation stops.

  • Patent number: 6389405
Abstract: An integrated system and method for providing a flexible expert system development and runtime environment with an integrated natural language processor and set-oriented knowledge base. The system and process include an input device, a spreading activation module, a reasoning module, a decision module, and a knowledge base. The system and method may also include a natural language processing module. The spreading activation module utilizes the knowledge base, which is set-oriented with named relationships between concepts to traverse the knowledge base efficiently. The reasoning module executes related, nested logic statements which manipulate the complex facts in the knowledge base. The decision module selects the value or values from a list which are most relevant at the moment the module is called. The knowledge base represents all data in a nested, set-oriented manner. The system and method, in turn, produce an output in response to the input or command into the system.

  • Patent number: 5377116
Abstract: A method of designing a cutting tool uses finite element numerical models to predict a response of the tool during a simulated cutting operation on a workpiece, and to simulate a chip-flow phenomenon occurring during the cutting operation. The chip-flow model incorporates representations of a fracture mechanism describing a chip separation phenomenon, a heat-generating mechanism describing a thermal coupling phenomenon, and a shear localization mechanism describing a shearing phenomenon wherein these phenomena occur during the cutting operation. The predicted tool response and the chip-flow simulation are evaluated by an artificial intelligence system to render rule-based judgments which are embodied in recommendations for continuously modifying the models and input design variables until the simulation and response converge to an optimal result.

  • Patent number: 4982830
Abstract: A connector feeding apparatus for an automated cable making machine is disclosed. The apparatus includes a pair of carousels each of which has a series of connector receiving units disposed about its periphery. Each carousel has a group of connector dispensing units arranged for selectively dispensing different types of connectors, under computer control, and inserting them into the connector receiving units. The carousels then deliver the connectors, in a desired order and a desired orientation to staging modules which, again under computer control, direct the connectors to a terminating station within the machine.
