  • Patent number: 8451432
Abstract: A laser spot tracker comprising a quadrant detector. A portion of a spot of laser light reflected from an object being illuminated (OBI) may be defocused to occupy a significant portion such as one-third of the field of view, while another portion remains focused, therefore allowing for quick calculation of the spot centroid. With such a “composite spot”, multiple target (OBI) positions may simultaneously be defined in elevation and azimuth with respect to null by analyzing the energy in each quadrant. The X and Y angle information (off null) for multiple targets (OBIs), and their codes may be displayed. For a large, defocused spot, two segmented multi-element detectors may be used, one in front of and the other behind the focal plane to reduce the effects of hot spots in a spot of laser light collected from an object being illuminated.

  • Patent number: 6087811
Abstract: A pulsed-output power supply having a high input power factor. The rate at which energy is transferred from a power supply unit (PSU) to an energy storage element such as a capacitor is monitored and adjusted such that the charging rate substantially matches the time interval between output pulses. In this manner, input power to the PSU is smoothed to a substantially constant level, thereby eliminating input power surges traditionally associated with pulsed-output power supplies and providing a high input power factor (PF). In an embodiment of the invention, energy transfer from the PSU to the capacitor is sensed by a current sensor. The period of current flow to the capacitor is compared to the historical or predicted period between capacitor discharge pulses. The rate of energy transfer from the power supply is automatically adjusted to make these two periods approximately equal.

  • Patent number: 5224861
Abstract: An onboard instructor station for a training device provides a human/computer interface that is designed to support an optimum instructor's scan pattern of the training scenario. All displays and switches required to control and monitor the mission are resident at the instructor's work surface directly in front of, and tangent to the instructor's seated position. This design allows for a dedicated over-the-shoulder observation position. Therefore, the instructor may simultaneously observe trainees' actions, a visual scene and device instrumentation while controlling and monitoring the training environment through embedded situational awareness displays and corresponding switches at the work surface. The unique aspect of this design is the one position from which all tasks can be accomplished through the support provided by the packaging. This packaging employs flat panel displays which replace the traditional, larger CRT units.
