Publication number: 20090084615Abstract: An apparatus and method of moving a mobile tower using solar power are disclosed for use with an irrigation system. The disclosed improvement includes a solar panel with a collecting surface to convert light energy to electrical energy, an electrical charge source in communication with the solar panel to receive electrical energy, and a motor to drive a ground-engaging wheel in communication with the electrical charge source. The improvement also includes a direction control system for regulating rotation of the solar panel and a tilt assembly for adjusting the angle of the solar panel to maintain the disposition of the collecting surface in alignment with the direction of incoming sunlight. The method of moving the mobile tower includes collecting light energy with a solar panel, converting the light energy into electrical energy, and driving a wheel of the mobile tower with a motor powered by the converted electrical energy.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 28, 2007Publication date: April 2, 2009Applicant: LINDSAY CORPORATIONInventors: Richard W. Publication number: 20090087260Abstract: To prevent the rut-like wheel tracks of an irrigation machine from becoming so deep that the wheels of an irrigation tower can become stuck in mud and water accumulating in the track, a foundation member is inserted into select, potentially troublesome portions of the wheel track to provide support for the wheels during subsequent passes of the machine. In one embodiment the foundation member comprises a generally rectangular pad constructed from synthetic resinous material and designed to be hooked together with other such pads in a chain-like series to provide the length of foundation required. In another embodiment, the foundation member comprises a thinner web or ribbon of preferably synthetic resinous material that may be wound into a coil for storage and cut to length as required. A third embodiment comprises a series of end-to-end pads hingedly interconnected by thinner lines of weakness that may be severed to provide a desired length of foundation member.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 2, 2007Publication date: April 2, 2009Applicant: LINDSAY CORPORATIONInventors: Thomas J. Patent number: 7007871Abstract: An irrigation assembly has a main pipeline supported at intervals by mobile towers, a plurality of drop tube assemblies at spaced intervals along the pipeline and a collector positioned to receive water from the drop tube assembly. A plurality of targets are positioned on the ground in the paths of motion defined by the movement of the collectors. The targets may be dishes. Each dish preferably has a perforated drain that penetrates beneath the surface of the ground. Interaction between the collector and the target causes the water stored within the collector to be released into the target. The irrigation assembly may provide for underground irrigation without a collector where a dish or trough receives water from the drop tube assembly and underground drains allow for water to be dispersed below the ground.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2001Date of Patent: March 7, 2006Assignee: Lindsay Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Richard W. Parod, Charles H. Meis

Publication number: 20020179738Abstract: A distribution tube assembly for an irrigation system having a main supply line for conveying fluid therein includes a first end, a second end and an internal surface defining at least two fluid passageways, at least one of the fluid passageways being in fluid communication with the main supply line. The other fluid passageway may be in fluid communication with an alternate supply line. Adaptors and regulators may be attached to the distribution tube assembly. The distribution tube assembly permits irrigation to be performed by multiple fluid streams, allows for the incorporation of chemicals within the distribution tube assembly, and provides for selectable flow control.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 1, 2001Publication date: December 5, 2002Inventors: Robert E. Callies, Charles H. Meis

Patent number: 4693425Abstract: This is concerned with a drive for a movable irrigation system and the like and is more specifically concerned with a gear drive arrangement between an electric drive motor and one or more of the wheels of a tower of a movable irrigation system with two gear assemblies between the electric motor and the ground engaging wheel, one of the gear assemblies being constructed and arranged for maximum speed reduction and minimum torque capacity and the other being driven by the first and constructed and arranged for minimum speed reduction and maximum torque capacity and driving the output shaft to the ground engaging wheel.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 1986Date of Patent: September 15, 1987Assignee: Lindsay Manufacturing Co.Inventors: Charles H. Patent number: 4674681Abstract: This is concerned with an irrigation system or mechanism which is constructed and arranged and intended to water non-circular fields which may be considered polygonal sided intersecting at the corners. The system and method includes the use or combination of two types of irrigation systems, the first a so-called lateral move or free-standing span system and the second, either a so-called center pivot irrigation unit or a lateral move unit. The free-standing span moves along the outside of the field following the edge or border or fence with turns at intersections and the main irrigation unit moves inside of it and is coordinated and connected to it so that at times they overlap and at times they are distended with water, preferably, being supplied to the free-standing span by the main irrigation unit.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 1985Date of Patent: June 23, 1987Assignee: Lindsay Manufacturing Co.Inventors: Charles H. Meis, David A. Siekmeier

Patent number: 4277023Abstract: This is concerned with a so-called center pivot irrigation system in which a string of pipe is supported on wheeled towers at intervals and pivots about a so-called center pivot or water supply either intermittently or continuously so that it waters or irrigates a generally circular area. This is more specifically concerned with an arrangement and a control for watering the corners or noncircular area of a field in a manner which is greatly simplified over a number of previous approaches.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1977Date of Patent: July 7, 1981Assignee: Lindsay Manufacturing CompanyInventors: John L. Anderson, John C. Davidson, Henry W. Schaaf, Charles H. Meis

Patent number: 4219043Abstract: An apparatus for supplying water or other fluids from a stationary pipe to a moving pipe. The stationary supply conduit has a seam which can be opened and closed somewhat in the fashion of a zipper. An extractor is located inside the supply conduit and has a riser portion which protrudes through an opening in the seam. The extractor is moveable along the length of the supply conduit. Seam opening means create an aperture as the riser approaches while closing means are provided to refasten the seam after the riser has passed. Fluid seals isolate the seam opening from the fluid being carried. The extractor rides on spherical rollers and can include an evacuator tube which removes any water seeping through the seals.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 1978Date of Patent: August 26, 1980Assignee: Lindsay Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Arthur L.
