  • Patent number: 9722978
Abstract: A system for license identification and verification uses watermarking technology to embed license information in the medium itself. Various techniques for the creation of the license are described. The Platform on which the media will be used can extract the watermark data and thereby identify and verify the license. The watermark data includes a certain minimal amount of license data. If further information is required, the Platform can use the watermark data to request additional license details from a Licensor or from a license server. Using this approach, the Platform can readily identify and verify that the media in its possession is properly licensed.

  • Patent number: 9471516
Abstract: Examples are disclosed for transmitting a command to control a peripheral device through an audio port. In some examples, the peripheral device may be coupled to a computing device via an interconnect. The interconnect may have an audio jack to couple with the computing device through an audio port and a connector to couple with a serial interface at the peripheral device. For these examples, elements of the computing device may receive a command to control the peripheral device and may generate analog signals including the command and a clock signal. The analog signals may then be transmitted through the audio port. The interconnect may be capable of converting the analog signals to a digital signal that includes the command and clock signal then provide the digital signal to the serial interface at the peripheral device. Other examples are described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 8528205
Abstract: A dual interface separable insulated connector comprising a faraday cage molded over a bus bar for use in an electric power system and a method of manufacturing the same are provided. The faraday cage can be disposed within a semi-conductive shell. The configuration of the separable insulated connector can provide for easier bonding between the faraday cage and insulating material. Additionally, the configuration can eliminate or reduce the need to coat the bus bar with an adhesive agent and to smooth the metal bus bar to remove burrs, other irregularities, and sharp corners from the bar. Manufacturing the dual interface separable insulated connector can include molding a semi-conductive rubber faraday cage over a conductive bus bar, inserting the faraday cage into a shell, and injecting insulating material between the faraday cage and shell.

  • Patent number: 8391330
Abstract: Metallization patterns are provided to reduce the probability of chip fracture in semiconductor lasers. According to one embodiment disclosed herein, the pad edges of a metallization pattern extend across a plurality of crystallographic planes in the laser substrate. In this manner, cracks initiated at any given stress concentration would need to propagate across many crystallographic planes in the substrate to reach a significant size. Additional embodiments of the present disclosure relate to the respective geometries and orientations of adjacent pairs of contact pads. Still further embodiments are disclosed and claimed.

  • Patent number: 8328569
Abstract: An adapter for connecting a 600 ampere deadbreak bushing to a pull-on and pull-off deadbreak elbow used for normally non-current carrying applications. The adapter comprises a two part separable assembly having first and second ends. The first end is threaded to mate with a threaded opening in the deadbreak bushing and the second end is threaded to mate with a threaded opening in a lug of the deadbreak elbow. The two part separable assembly is coupled together with the first part of the assembly that is screwed into the deadbreak bushing and has a groove that snaps (latches) into a corresponding latching ring in a molded insert of the deadbreak elbow that surrounds the second part of the assembly screwed into the lug inside of the deadbreak elbow. Other latching mechanisms may be used to mechanically and electrically couple together the first and second parts of the adapter assembly.

  • Patent number: 8152547
Abstract: Stiff and soft materials each provide certain advantages when used in the manufacture of separable insulated connectors, such as elbow and T-body connectors. Utilizing a shell or an insert that includes one section made from a stiff material and one section made from a soft material can provide a separable insulated connector that capitalizes on the advantages associated with both types of materials. The stiff materials and soft materials can be placed strategically on the shell or insert of the separable insulated connector to maximize the advantages of each material. For example, the stiff material can be used to form a section of the separable insulated connector where strength and durability is most desirable, and conversely, the soft material can be used to form a section of the connector where flexibility is desirable. A relatively stiff band can be provided around a relatively soft portion of a connector.

  • Patent number: 8151364
Abstract: A method of authenticating a remote service (104) to a user (102) via a communications network (106) is disclosed. The remote service (104) obtains a service authentication code that has been generated, using a code generation algorithm, based on a first secret key. The service authentication code is communicated to the user (102) via the communications network (106) and received, or entered, into an authentication device (106) associated with the user (102). The authentication device (106) then generates, using the same code generation algorithm, an expected code value based on a second secret key and compares the expected code value to the service authentication code. Responsive to the comparison, and in the event that the expected code value correlates with the service authentication code, the authentication device (106) generates a response that indicates to the user (102) the authenticity of the remote service (104).
