    Abstract: An anti-reflective coating employing silicon as a high refractive index material in a film pair together with silicon dioxide as a low refractive index material is found to be substantially transparent to visible light and to provide good anti-reflectance where the silicon film is ultra-thin, preferably less than about 50 Angstroms and the thickness of the silicon dioxide film is matched to that of the silicon film. Laminated glazing units having such anti-reflective film can be used, for example, even in applications requiring high transmittance of visible light, such as motor vehicle windshields, in view of the substantial transparency of the coating.

    Abstract: In a transparent glass article comprising an electrically conductive, transparent, metal-based coating on a glass substrate and polyvinyl butyral material (PVB) bonded thereto, adhesion between the coating and the PVB is improved by a thin chromium-based film on the metal-based coating interfacing with the PVB. Adhesion is particularly improved in its resistance to exposure to UV radiation. In an electrically heated windshield application, the adhesion is improved by chromium-based film (24) between the metal-based coating (22) on a first glass template (12) and a PVB interlayer (26) mediate the first glass template and a second glass template (28). The glass article is produced according to a method aspect of the invention.

    Abstract: This specification is directed to a new article of manufacture. In particular, the article is a glass sheet having first and second sides spaced apart in generally parallel planes with a multilayer coating on one of the sides of the glass sheet. The side of the glass sheet having the multilayer coating thereon is designated as the film side of the glass sheet while the other side is designated as the glass side of the glass sheet. The multilayer coating film is a film selected from the group of films consisting of a copper, stainless steel, titanium dioxide multilayer film; a copper, titanium, titanium dioxide multilayer film; and a copper, titanium, titanium nitride multilayer film. The multilayer coating film is characterized, when applied to 6 mm thick clear glass, as having: (1) a film side Y-x-y chromaticity value of reflective color falling within area A of the graph of FIG. 1 of this specification; (2) a glass side Y-x-y chromaticity value of reflective color falling within area B of the graph of FIG.
