  • Patent number: 5217339
Abstract: An improved plate/fastener assembly includes an elongated fastener having a first set of threads adjacent the tip and a second set of threads adjacent the head. The first set of threads has a diameter smaller than that of the second. The fastener is employed with a plate which includes a stress plate portion having a hub extending downwardly therefrom. The hub includes an opening extending therethrough which receives the fastener. The first set of threads will engage with a metal roof deck to hold the fastener in place, while the second set of threads engages with the plate to hold the plate in place. The lower face of the plate includes a plurality of ribs adapted to engage with an insulation material to prevent rotation of the plate. Each of the ribs presents a concave configuration in the direction of rotation of the plate to disengage same from the fastener.

  • Patent number: 4809568
Abstract: A barrel assembly includes a housing for attachement to a conventional driving tool. A barrel member having a through bore is slidably attached at one end to the housing and carries a stress plate retaining pad at the other end. A pre-assembled enlongated headed fastener and stress plate combination is inserted into the barrel assembly whereby, during driving, the head of the fastener is slidably guided by the barrel bore while the shank portion of the fastener is rigidly held by the locked stress plate assuring a perpendicular driving alignment between the fastener and the workpiece, such as a roof deck plate. Biasing means normally forces the barrel in an extended position relative to the housing and also permits the barrel and stress plate retaining pad to retract during a plate tapping sequence of the fastener to prevent thread stripping of the stress plate.

  • Patent number: 4762453
Abstract: A fastener having a retaining member with a top portion and an elongated hub extending downwardly from the top portion. A helical groove extends throughout a substantial portion of the length of the hub and the upper end of the helical groove is formed to change the lead between the upper end of the helical groove and at least the uppermost loop of a helical coil mounted in the helical groove to create a tensile load on the hub by a helical coil having at least the uppermost loop located in the helical groove. A helical coil with a plurality of loops has at least the uppermost loop located in the helical groove in the hub, and the end portion of the uppermost loop contacts the portion of the groove formed to change the lead to create a tensile load on the hub to mount the helical coil on the hub.

  • Patent number: 4550476
Abstract: The adapter for the torquing tool includes an elongated body having a bore in at least one end to accommodate a driver bit and a coupling means for detachably attaching the body to the tool. A depth adjustment bushing is threadably engaged within said bore, with the bushing being externally threaded to engage the bore. The bushing includes a body section and a shank section. An axial passageway extends through the shank section and an axial slot extending through the wall of the shank in communication with the passageway. A screw extends through a radial threaded opening in the body and into the axial passageway through the slot so when the driver bit is housed within the body section and extends into the passageway, it is held in place by tightening the screw. In a preferred form, the passageway has a hexagonal cross section for mating engagement with a hexagonal end section of the driving bit.

  • Patent number: 4491443
Abstract: An adapter for a torquing tool includes an elongated body having a bore at at least one end to accommodate a working member such as a drill bit or fastener driver and a coupling means for detachably attaching the body to the tool so that at least a portion of the adapter is not housed within the tool. The improvement comprises a quick release means internal of the portion of the body member that is not housed within the tool to detachably retain the working member within the bore and to the elongated body and means associated with said bore and said working member for transmitting torque from the tool to the working member. The preferred quick release means is a spring loaded shuttle positioned in an opening radially through the body member and in communication with the bore. The preferred torque transmitting means is a pair of corresponding, opposed surfaces disposed on the bore and working member, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4361997
Abstract: A plastic plate is provided for use with a fastener to secure insulation to a metal roof deck. The plate has a planar portion having a centrally disposed tapered hub portion. The central opening and preferably a clear through hole extends in the plate in the area of the hub. The bottom of the plate includes anti-rotational means for engagement with the insulation during driving of the fastener. The anti-rotational means may be associated with the bottom of the planar portion, the hub or both. The fastener may include two separate and spaced apart threaded portions so that as the fastener first engages the metal deck, the unthreaded portion is within the previously tapped hub portion.

  • Patent number: 4192459
Abstract: The rail anchor system includes two pins and two clips. Each pin extends through a horizontal transverse bore in a cross-tie. The pins have extensions at each end exposed on both sides of the cross-tie and the bores are parallel to and substantially within the outer edges of the bottom flange of the rail which sits on the cross-tie. Two resilient clips form a part of the system. Each clip has a looped section, a hooked extension extending from one end of the looped section and a lever extension extending from the other end of the loop section. A clip is used on each side of the tie with the loop sections engaging the pin extensions of opposite pins and the lever extensions being locked by opposite pins when the respective hooks are in engagement with the cross-tie.
