Publication number: 20140342388Abstract: A reagent includes a magnetic nanoparticle, a cleavable linker, and a primary amine reactive group. A first end of the cleavable linker may conjugate to a surface of the magnetic nanoparticle. A second end of the cleavable linker may conjugate to a primary amine reactive group. A method of using the reagent includes adding the reagent to a native protein mixture such that magnetic nanoparticles may conjugate to the protein with exposed primary amine groups in the native protein mixture. The method also includes separating the proteins with exposed primary amine group from other components of the native protein mixture under a magnetic field. The method further includes removing the magnetic nanoparticles from the proteins with the exposed primary amine groups from at cleavable linkers. The method finally includes identifying sequences and/or sites of the exposed primary amine groups in the proteins.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 29, 2014Publication date: November 20, 2014Inventors: Yang Cai, Matthew A. Patent number: 7279521Abstract: A method for modifying the properties of a nylon block copolymer comprising: supplying a nylon block copolymer wherein the nylon block copolymer has a flexural modulus, a tensile modulus, and an unnotched Izod impact strength. Incorporated into the nylon block copolymer is a nanoclay filler wherein the nanoclay filler is present at a level of between about 1.0-20.0 wt. %. The addition of the nanoclay filler serves to increase the values of the nylon block copolymer's flexural modulus, tensile modulus, while substantially maintaining the value of the unnotched Izod impact strength and/or increasing the value of said unnotched Izod impact strength, upon addition of the nanoclay filler.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2003Date of Patent: October 9, 2007Assignee: Foster CorporationInventors: Lawrence A. Acquarulo, Jr., Charles J. O'Neil

Patent number: 6773823Abstract: By utilizing the sequential synthesis afforded reverse micelles, nanocomposite materials can be synthesized which have a diamagnetic core surrounded by a thin shell of ferromagnetic material passivated with a second shell of a diamagnet. Using gold as the diamagnetic material and iron as the ferromagnetic material, nanocomposites can be synthesized where there is a thin layer of the magnetic material, which is passivated and protected from oxidation. In this case, all of the spins of the magnetic layer lie within the surface of the particle.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 2001Date of Patent: August 10, 2004Assignee: University of New Orleans Research and Technology Foundation, Inc.Inventors: Charles J. O'Connor, Everett E. Carpenter, Jessica Ann Sims

Patent number: 4383744Abstract: A system for the remote actuation of a camera. A sensor is provided at a point remote from the camera and actuated by an object to be photographed. Actuation closes a circuit between a power source and a motor to drive the motor. The output motion of the camera is transmitted to the camera to depress the shutter. The output is controlled by gears and a linkage to ensure that a minimum number of frames are exposed and that the shutter is restored to its initial position.Type: GrantFiled: April 7, 1981Date of Patent: May 17, 1983Inventor: Charles J. Patent number: 4085061Abstract: A chemical exchange method for removing tritium from nuclear reactor cooling water is described herein. A concentrated tritium distribution is formed by transfering tritium from the reactor cooling water to a weakly basic, hydrophilic solid, and then to a more strongly basic liquid. Tritium is then removed from the more strongly basic liquid by distillation.Type: GrantFiled: July 26, 1976Date of Patent: April 18, 1978Assignee: Aerojet-General CorporationInventor: Charles J.
