Abstract: The invention relates to a pneumatic tire with a toroidal shaped tire carcass having sidewalls and a tread. The tire carcass terminates at opposite bead regions for mounting on a tire rim. The tire has at least one of the sidewalls having a projection of rubber having a groove, and a removable member provided in the groove for forming a decorative or colored rim flange protector.

Abstract: A tire tread has at least three rows of tread elements, each tread element in the at rows has at least one sipe and at least one sipe in each tread element row has a tie bar therein. Each tie bar in the sipes has a volume, and the volume of the sipe tie bar in each tread element in each row is not more than 10% different than the volume of the sipe tie bar in each tread element in any other tread row. Several of the tread rows have transverse grooves having groove tie bars therein.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for making a tire with a built in sealant is provided. The method includes the steps of mounting an inner liner onto a tire building drum, extruding a sealant composition into strips having tapered sidewalls, cutting the strip to a desired length, mounting the sealant over the inner liner in two or more zones, wherein each zone is separated by a circumferential divider which joins the inner liner to the a cover layer forming a barrier to prevent migration of the sealant from one zone to another.

Abstract: A tire tread for a pneumatic tire has a center rib and a series of steeply slanted grooves in each side region of the tread, the circumferentially adjacent grooves form blocks extending through the tread side regions. The center rib has a serrated configuration along each lateral side and a supporting chamfer extending from each serration point. Adjacent to each rib chamfer is a chamfer extending from the axially innermost point of the rib at the junction of two adjacent steeply slanted grooves. The rib is provided with high density siping. The tread blocks are siped wherein the siping density decreases from the tread center to the tread shoulders.
